Brake Discs

I had my 02 CTS since new and now done 60K miles. It been dealer serviced every year.

No real probs so far, other than the alarm going off intermittently within the first month, and the usual replacement of tyres, Wiper Blades etc. After 6 years I not replaced a light bulb... yet...

At 40K and to my surprise both front and rear disc pads had to be replaced. ok, I maybe driving too fast!!

At the 60K service the bombshell was, yer front discs and pads need replaced... 20K out of pads over 2 years, and discs last a total of 60K, come on, that will be £285 please sir, £240 for service and £50 for MOT...ouch

What going on Mr T...? The crap French makes seem to have brake discs that last longer than Toyota’s.

Question is are the dealers selling crap parts at extortionate prices, and taking the mickey at the same time, or are the CTS’s brake discs just made of crap, designed for Japan, and not the ***** awful Scottish weather...

Oh, and was promised courtesy car from dealer, which after loads of excuses didn’t appear!!

I sure I seen thread on this before! Would be grateful for any comments links

Yea the disks and pads are very poor, your lucky to get that long out of the disks. Mine were done at 60k also, my one was a motorway car. Think there must be 100k on my Mondeo disks. I got out the micrometer when last doing pads and think they still has a couple of millimetres left. Change them next service. I bet they wont cost as much as Toyota disks

Do autodata get there minimum disk thickness data directly from Toyota? Does anyone know the minimum disk thickness?

tbh 60k from a set of discs isnt bad , i killed a set in a weekend once :( pads are presumably ok-ish but you should always install fresh pads with new discs . you should of changed them at 40k with the pads , saved you money in the long run

I've got my 60k 6 year service due in August. My 02 CTS has only done 42k miles though.

Been quoted £190 at my local Toyota Dealership Hodgsons at the Silverlink. I'm going to ring up my next nearest dealership which is Minories in Sunderland and see what they offer the same service at.

I had my front brake discs and pads changed on my 40k 4 year service so hoping I don't need to change yet but doubt I will be going to Toyota for that.

I have had my corolla nearly a year now and after i think 5 months from buying the car from the dealer my discs and pads needed to be replaced.

It is common but otherwise! sound cars!

I think they are very poorly made and do not last, try another company i think i should have done so.

What i do know is the back discs are different to the front discs and my local garage who do brakes etc, said to me best bet was to get the rear discs from toyota as it was hard for them to supply the rear discs for the e12 corolla. Different kind of rear disc on the car which is not the same as the front.

Regardless just got the back discs from toyota and had someone else fit them.

Well just got my quote for the 60k 6 year service at Minories Toyota Wearside. Its going to cost me £235.00

Price from Hodgsons Toyota at the Silverlink Newcastle was £190 but then this did not include the brake fluid change which was another £50 on top. Is this brake fluid change optional or should it be done anyway. They have stated on the letter that it is recommended by Toyota that the brake fluid be change every 2 years anyway so why didn't they just include it in the service anyway?

I'm going to Minories Wearside though as they provide a better service overall. Hodgsons didn't even bother filling out the visual health check correctly last time so was upset with them over that as had no indication on how long my tyres would last.
