Gtr 4ws Playing Up

I have a 1991 Celica GTR with 4ws, or without 4ws as is the case.

When I start the car up it;s fine. Drive 100 yards and the 4WS light illuminates on the dash and the back wheels no longer wish to turn.

The problem has happened intermitently for a couple of months but now happens every time I get in the car. Fortunately the wheels lock when heading straight forward. Could be interesting if locked when turned!!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I think you mean 4wd ?

I don't know of any version of the Celica with 4 wheel steering.

The GTR has 4ws.

Try to clear the ECU.

If not take it to a dealer asap because it would be very dangerous to get them stick in a turn.

think its only imports that seem to have the 4 wheel steering,

i was under impression it was only my model, the active sport that had this .

what model is yours

I have a 1991 Imported GTR with 4ws.

I cant get used to it and she slides all over the place when the roads are wet (or maybe I dont know how to handle 4ws) so I have turned it off.

howds you turn the 4ws off?

Theres a button on the gear stick which just pushes in and out to switch the 4ws off or on.

A red light on the dash also tells me if its on or off.

aint no button on mine, and no light on the dash to state its on, i just pressumed it was always on!

i got a button on make it reverse 2 wheel steering that switches it of when in reverse, i know that works

also i got a sports driving mode button

My usermanual for the 4ws celica says that the 4ws switch is on the dash near the steering column and not on the gear lever. Guess it varies between models.

4 ws isn't off when you press Revs 2ws afaik. It's only in reverse that works. Don't think it can be switched off at all.

The button on the gearstick is to switch overdrive on and off.
