Thud Sound As Pull Away

When i pull away after strating engine i get a thud sound. this happens both on cold start and warm start. It only happens when pulling away after starting engine and not when for instance after stopping at light. It also only happens when i drive forward, if i reverse out of driveway then it will only happen when i start driving forward. noise seems to be coming from front driver side.

Are you sure its not the traction control doing a self test? My avensis does it, it's mentioned in the user manual that it self tests once it gets to a certain speed.

Well i purchased car in December and problem only started recently. Do you get this every time you switch on engine??

Yeh every time, sounds like a crunch and lasts for about half a second.

Hi i have a 2006 avensis 1.8 TX-3 manual with 13,000 on the clock and it does the same too, it only happens when the ignition is turned for the first time, and you let the clutch up all the way in first gear, if you keep it dipped it does not happen straight away.

May sound silly but have you checked all your wheel nuts?

Check your brakes - could be a sticking caliper and the thud is the release of the disc.
