Cts Vs Golf Gti (remapped)

Well as the title says this is about how my facelift cts compared against a friends mk4 1.8 turbo gti remapped to 205 bhp.

We have both had our cars for a while now but we have never put them against each other (on the track). Now i've been in the car with him and I knew it was fast and as i've never really had anything to compare mine against i thought im goining to get killed here.....

Fortunately there weren't any corners this was all straight line speed and to my surprise and more importantly to his surprise I was glued to his back bumper all the way, this involved low speed take off's and some higher speed rolling starts. Granted I think I had to work harder to keep up with him by making sure I was over 6K rpm but I did.

Goes to show the CTS isn't as slow as some people( and toyota with there rediculous 0-60 time make out)

He has also had a run in with a clio 182 cup and he said it was the same situation as me, not gaining on him or losing out but staying with him.

if you were behind it is much easier to keep up cos of the slip stream - toe to toe is the only way!!

Though you would have beaten him. As friend of mine also has a 1.8 turbo remapped and the dyno sheet shows 190bhp on the 1.8 gti mk4.

What would you reckon if you were side by side.

I was about to say something about your grammar and then realised you're not English, so I wont.

We used to have a similar meet here in Runcorn, but it was forever getting busted by Police. One night a lot of us were there until near 3AM 'cos they bought down one of those.... (forgot name) Mobile MOT thingies. Checked all our cars over before they'd let us go... Needless to say quite a few failed and were fined / given' points and even some taken away. Obviously these cars weren't just 1.4 8vs or the like. One bloke had his R33 taken off him. Ouch.

At the end of the day, again, people are comparing the CTS to cars with Turbos / Bigger engines. Is there any other 1.8 N/A on the road that has the same power output as the CTS? Besides the Integra Type-R. 'Cos I sure can't think of any....

Anyways - Good to see it holds it's own agaisnt remapped Turbo Golfs xD

I am not having a go, but....

Every time i read a post like this i always wonder what people are expecting! When cars have similar power to weight ratio's and comparative handling & setups (FWD) as one and other there wont be much difference! One car wont leave the other assuming both are mechanically sound, unless one driver is Michael Schumacher and the other Terry Wogan or my mum  Especially if both are going for it!

Also if anyone were to get whipped by a 1.0 Corsa or thrash an EVO 10 around a circuit that would be very interesting to hear but would anyone ever admit to it or have it happen, unlikely

The only reason I mentioned our little experiment was to show that our cars get slated and under estimated but I'd just shown to my self really that it kept up easily with a car which i know is fast....and the bit about kepping up with him coz of the slip stram, some of the time we were side by side with the same results.

At the end of the day we have a comfortable car that on the majority of roads will keep up with the other hot hatches on the market yet we have the benefit of the cts being insurance group 14 for us to feel smug about.

The Q car factor of the CTS is my main reason for buying one, the less attention the better.

That was a major reason why i bought one, also it had 9 more bhp that my mates vrs!! Just to pi** him off!!!! :P

I was thinking either an s40 t4, vrs or the cts. Thought the corolla would be easier to sell in Ireland

VRS has the same engine as the golf but with 30 more bhp. Its feels faster everyday but in a drag race nothing in it.

Considering it has been remapped and you'r t sport is stock thats fairly good. I sat in the remapped MK4 and drove it GTI but i just found it really boring.

It was fast obviously but just didnt enjoy the way it delivered its power regardless being a turbo. there wasnt much thrill in it and it felt like i was driving a box.

If cts is faster that chipped 180hp leon, it should be faster than that golf?

My cts with k&n is a bit faster than my friends 1.8t audi TT 230hp, 370nm, but he has some problems with the exhaust.

Agreed i like it when they dont know about the car. Should have seen my friends face when he had a run with one in his m3! we couldnt lose him and round corners the t sport was knocking forward. Facelift model with full exhaust system induction kit and a decat. Not sure what else was done but obviously in a straight line it would be another story but because of bends and other conditions it was fairly tight.

Unlucky for your mate in the M3 would pay good money to see the look on his face, nearly had up by a Corolla haha smooth ;)

It was shocking we were ahead but we couldnt lose the corolla, (Small Traks) and other cars etc but it kept up well.
