Burning Oil - Mot Failure

Hi all, sorry im new to this, need some advice.

I bought my avensis in the UK last year and exported it to ireland, It has failed its MOT on emmisions,

Cat has been replaced and retest failed again.

The car is 2001 and has 98k on it.

I am unsure if it has any history or if a recall was carried out on the vehicle.

Toyota Ireland refused to even consider my case, and when they found out it was a UK import, they kindly told me where to go!!!

My local garage (non toyota) opened up the cover and found (LARGE) particles from the plastic inlet manifold in cylinder 1.

Could this be my problem or is there still a chance that its requires a new short block?

I have had 3 Carinas and this is my second avensis, first gave me problems, and this one gives me more serious problems!!!

Bring back the Carina!!!

Cheers!!!

hello MATE

it's bad rule to import a car with unknown history. Now You're face to face to this problem along.

i presume what did local MrT tell you ...

Nothing to say and advice you. It is understood that now you have to inspect all the engiine very carefully and change all worn parts.

No way back otherwise this car will become rusted .

Good luck

Igor

Cheers mate!

yeah that was more or less the situation,

but the one thing i wonder is it possible to check with toyota uk, if this recall was carried out???

ive had about 8 calls from breakers or remanufacturers in the uk for these engines, but i have my doubts about their quality and background.

anyone recommend any place to pick up a second hand engine?

what recall ? the oil burning issue was and is by individual case.the inlet manifold internal webs fracturing was only relevant to the corolla and again was by individual case while inside the 3 year 60k warranty. Back to the oil burning, it MUST also have a full toyota service history.

Don't give up on your car. The early Avensis is a brilliant car & has a very low fail rate via the NCT test. As your aware that's why so many are brought in from the UK. Not quite sure how to go about it but if you email me or send private note, I will send you the required information for emmisions testing straight from the NCT book. On your part absolutely no mention of any counties, names, test centres or names or numbers of testers from your fail sheet please.
