8/88 Hilux Timing Belt Snapped, No Bent Valves (i Hope)

but cant find any real marks to re align timing belt, did the best i could, eg put cam to lobes down which seemed to line the dot on the cam with the horizontal plane of the top of the head where the tappet cover goes, and a mark on the head casting for the diesel pump with its dot, and the crank lined up with pin to the line on the harmonic balancer. it started straight away , runs on all four but sounds really knocky and lacks a bit of power.
