Laptop Format - No Windows Disk

A friend has given a friend a laptop and they want it formating.

It's XP and has no disks and no restore points

Is there a better way than downloading a copy of the net, using the code on the bottom and phoning up MS for a code?

Done a google search and come up with nothing

Any ideas - there must be someway to do it?

Cheers!

If the code on the bottom is legit (as I'm presuming) then it might be worth a call to MS Customer Services to see if they can provide (at cost probably) replacement media.

The cheapest I've seen XP (Home or Pro) is about £65 for a kosher CD.

Yep it's legit ....

For £65 I might see how good some freeware programs can clean up the system first - apart from the obvious anybody recommend any or anything else I could try?

I guess a phone call to the laptop manufacture could provide me with the disks a bit cheaper than MS
