Ah, I mis-read it too (I shouldn't get up that early) if the picture

is from your new radio Ecoboy is right: no adapters needed.

I have changed the title for you Gordon! :)

Thanks for the title change.

Well picked up my car on Friday, changed the radio.

Very pleased with the car, but spending all my time picking of bits of dirt that keep landing on it (sure that will change soon though).

Done the standard take a bunch of photos and upload them to the web, here they are : http://s277.photobucket.com/albums/kk56/gordon861/Aygo/

Now looking at replacing the Speakers, before I blow up the standard units.

The question is when I pulled the first speaker out there appears to be something inline before it gets to the Speakers. I'm going to have to cut the speaker plug off to fit the new Speakers on anyway so should I cut that out of the circuit or leave it in ?

I'm not sure what it is supposed to be, it might just be extra resistance to stop you blowing the speakers or something to change the impedance of the speakers.

Any thoughts on what to do, or even what this thing is supposed to do ?

The thingie you're referring to is probably where the leads for the tweeters tap into the wiring.

If you'r new Speakers are coaxials I'd disconnect the tweeters, if they're one-way I'd leave 'em on.

BTW, you don't have to worry about blowing the OEM's up too much:

I've had a 4x50W Kenwood in my car since day one (well two actually) and I

haven't blown up anything yet, while I DO pump up the volume at some times...

The OEM Speakers can handle 13W RMS if I remember correctly and a radio that's sold

as 4x50W or so usually only outputs around 12W to 15W RMS and 50W peak per channel.

One thing that MAY be of influence in my setup is my subwoofer: I've filtered out the lows

to the Speakers and the low tones usually are the culprit in blowing up a speaker.

The credit crunch is serious now. Hardly any customers at the dealers. No problem with getting Aygo Platinum, mine was actually waiting for me at the back. They needed to fit front fogs and mudflaps + do paperwork (me insuring the car, them dvla/ tax).. From the day I ordered to collection -- 10 days.

Wow - my wife ordered hers on 12th september and we just got a call to advise that the car will be ready...........

MID NOVEMBER !!!!!

She aint happy.....

The impression I got from the dealers when I was calling around was if I wanted a standard model like the Blue/Platinum you would get it quick, but if you want something different it may have to come from the factory and will therefore take a bit longer.

Standard??? they are special edition models  I am insulted :P

You are bang on the money there - spoke to 3 dealers today in various parts of the country who all said that if it was a Blue or Platinum model then no problems but an Aygo+ in chilli red would most likely be a factory order - must admit that the MMT gearbox probably doesn't help delivery time either. My wife can only drive auto's - what are the MMT's like to drive as we couldnt get a test drive in one but she loves the C1 / 107 / Aygo so ordered it anyway.

Great site by the way - very informative.

Some people find the MMT annoying, but this is mostly the opinion of people getting used to the system. As far as I know it's plain sailing once you've got the hang of it. It's not for enthusiastic driving since it's not a conventional automatic. Instead of a torque server (a hydromechanical liquid clutch), the standard clutch from the manual is automated (electromechanical) and controlled by the ECU

Posted

Using in E mode can be annoying at times slow compared with a conventional auto box.

In M mode I have no problems at all, just a flick of the lever with the little finger and it changes up or down.

I know it might seem stupid, but I can change up and down the box quicker than I could with a Manual car.

If I want high spirited driving with a auto box ie ultra responsive kick down I drive the other car.

The reason I drive an Auto is I've had several accidents in motorsports and virtually shattered my left ankle, making it painful to drive a manual for long distances(40 miles or more)

Posted

I can confirm the above for the MMT

The E mode is so so SO slow it should be avoided, but the M mode is fine. At normal engine speeds it is as smooth and quick as a normal manual gearchange, but if you are thrashing it then at high revs it will take a bit longer presumably some sort of safety margin built in. Even at these speeds it's still quicker than E mode by a long way, just not as quick as a good aggressive manual gearchange. You won't hit 5th going from 2nd though in the rush like you might do in a manual though ;)

For normal driving I mainly only change up. When decelerating to a stop I let it change down so I don't second guess it and end up going down 2 gears. It changes down to a stop very smoothly. When starting from stop it has slight creep like an automatic but not as powerful, so you will still have to use a handbrake on an incline start.

Finally, it stops you changing to too higher gear, so if you are at 20mph it will not let you do 5th for instance.

Personally I really like it.

Andy

Thanks very much for the feedback guys - its the wifes car so she will be using it just to get about town really so "spirited" gearchanges wont be an issue, unless I'm allowed to drive it.

Got my 3 year service plan today - £279, Toyota Plan not the franchise dealers own plan so can be used at any Toyota dealer, and a load cheaper than any other offerings.

All I need to do now is change over the Speakers ...

Posted

Back again - sorry guys, another question now that you have mentioned the service plan - Is it worth taking out/ How much is a 10k service on an Aygo? The reason I ask is that we have a Toyota specialist garage (non Toyota Franchise) that is a darn sight cheaper for servicing (would be below £279 for 3 services) and I believe that if a garage is VAT registered then they can carry out servicing on the vehicle without invalidating the warranty. Or am I talking rubbish? I'm exploring all avenues at the moment as my confidence in the local franchises is not good.

Posted

The problem with non-Toyota garages doing the servicing is that most car companies can get awkward if the vehicle isn't serviced using genuine parts and by an approved garage (in theory they shouldn't but they often can, just look at the thread about the wheelnuts not being covered).

I think £279 is a pretty good deal, it's at least 25% lower than the franchise dealers are offering and you aren't stuck with one garage to do the work.

Three services on an Aygo, at todays prices would be £290 ish at your dealer, plus you get an MOT worth £50 AND you get the servicing at todays prices. To use the "I can get it done cheaper" routine is true, you probably could, but an independant doesnt have to charge the rates that a dealer does, as he doeesn't have the overheads your dealer has, and he wont know your car like your dealer does. There are some very good independents out there, but there are some shocking ones too! You are more likely to be ripped off by Fred in the shed than your experienced dealer

Hi Kingo / GordonH,

Its a couple of very good points you make - I just wanted to see what the costs of individual services were versus paying for it up front as I am not sure how long we will be keeping the car - I didnt know about the free MOT on the service plan either so it looks like a reasonable deal - all I need now id for my dealer to accept Toyota's own plan rather than their own franchise one. I tell you, this new car ownership is a real minefield :o

Kind regards

Andy

There is no free MOT in the Toyota own service plan so that will be an extra £50 on top for the third service, but there is no reason it will fail because they will be servicing before doing the MOT.

The franchise service plans seem to include a free MOT with the 3rd service but they are over £100 more.

Door Speakers done now, thought I was going to loose a finger removing the panel on the passenger door.

Might need to refit the head unit again soon as the job isn't as 'clean' as it could be, will need a new surround for it again then.

But other than that there should be no more buggering around with it now.

Was thinking of a sunroof but decided against it for now, if I want air open the window or use the aircon.

alloys are another possibility though.

I think this thread is now dead and buried, but as the original Sales Executive involved I feel it only right to be able to put my point across. I'm NOT trying to pass the blame, but if you have the facts from my end then it may not seem as bad.

You called me up and I gave you two prices for your Ka, 1 for August, and then 1 for September. You choose the August price and it was a higher price and as you have mentioned a few times, your bike would see you through until the delivery of your new Aygo. The price was the best deal you had so you decided to go for it.

Then there was the problem, in the delay between being happy with the deal and coming in to me, if you remember, I was on a day off also (thought I'd point that out as you were impressed by the chap at Bracknell doing the same thing) the lead time for the car had gone back until October. UNTIL WE HAVE A DEPOSIT FROM A CUSTOMER WE DO NOT ORDER CARS FROM THE TOYOTA ORDERING SYSTEM. This is simply because the amount of people that agree on a deal and then never end up going for it is very high and we would have valuable parking spaces tied up with new cars in stock.

I tried to honour the deal as much as I could but we had already given you all but the minimal amount of profit out of our Aygo, we therefore, couldn't risk losing money on your Ka at auction or selling it to one of our Ford dealers.

I did contact you as soon as I could about the delay and I'm really very sorry if it seemed that I was being unreasonable. We here at Toyota Sandhurst pride ourselves on a COMPLETE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION and I would like to think that I am an easy person to do business with. You either want the deal, or you don't. I don't pressure people into buying things as I don't like it when people do the same to me. Although I represent Toyota, we are only a franchise and we can't change lead-times. Toyota produce all of our cars as quickly as we can and try to keep all lead times to a minimum.

In closing, I'm glad that you now have your Aygo+ and I hope it serves you well for many years to come. I hope that your feelings of animosity to me will be slightly alleviated by hearing my side of the argument as we never really talked it through fully as you were (understandably) upset by the delay and what looked like very little compensation from me.

Regards,

Ben Connolly

No hard feelings, as you can see from the post it wasn't just your place that got me a annoyed. At the time I felt it was a this is the 'new deal' take it or leave it, I left it. Could I have done things better, probably. Could things have been put over better, probably.

End of the day I got a car in September instead of October, but switched to a 3-door to get it.

Hopefully anyone that bothers to read the whole thread and is looking to buy a car will act a little faster with the money next time. And dealers will stop trying to sell blue/silver cars to people that have already stated they don't want them (not you guys).
