Cheers Dave,

Hey Dave and welcome to the site,

Good choice matey your halfway there ;) cant help you on too many figures but the standard CTS will put out 189BHP and its 0-60 is a much heated debate, it certainly isnt as slow as Toytoa claim it to be which you will learn by the looks on the poor victims face as they get had up by a rolla ;)

What year are you going ot buy as if i can add my 2p in i didnt really know much when i bought the car i got a prefacelift (02) which i love however i did have to spend a bit on getting the thing lowered as from stock its a very tall car. the Facelift (04 onwards i think but i can be corrected on that) was dropped by 15mm more than the prefacelift but still benifits from another 15mm drop (Eibach and TTE springs are the same and both give a 30mm drop on a prefacelift and 15mm drop on a facelift) i trundled around witout doing anything perfectly happy for a year but in my humble opinion if you get a prefeacelift you would grately benifit from you dropping it. The facelift model also gives you a few extras like different pedals white dials etc.

Its a great car and i love it let us know how you get on :)

Hi there, thanks for the welcome :D, im getting an 03 Plate so pre - face lift i was also thinking about lowering it, i heard Eibach are supposed to be pretty cheap and cheerful how did the car handle after being lowerd? as for the perfomance i cant see it being slower than the celica T sport which is heavier if im correct?

Celica's are lighter cars than the 'rolla but only a little so the CTS has similar performance to the Celica T-Sport or 190.

Once you hit 'Lift' you can see why we love the CTS :)

Hey dude, getting it dropped has made it look so much better and handles a little better as well and the end of the day they are only springs so if you wanted to really sort everything you would be lookng at coilovers, ive heard that much more than a 35mm drop can lead to driveshaft issues but thats only what i know for various differnet posts. the eibachs are a decent price and they are the same spring as the TTE ones from toyota (if you can convince toyota that they actually will fit your car) lots of ppl on here have eibachs so im sure some 1 will recommend them.

Hi there and welcome to TOC. Just to reconfirm a lot of what has been stated already, I also have an 03 pre-facelift and ended up putting some eibachs on (these are indeed identical to the TTE ones which are just rebadged Eibachs). Whilst this hasn't sorted out the handling, it does hug the road much better and isn't so wallowy when cornering. I also fitted a front strut brace as this is missing on the pre-facelift but comes as standard on the facelift version. I'll be thinking about a rear anti-roll bar next.

In terms of performance, the 0-60 is definitely faster than the 8.2 seconds which I think is quoted and technically you can hit 60 in 2nd gear as I believe the top speed in 2nd is quoted at 63mph or something like that. If you look at some threads about people taking there cars onto the strip, they are all getting times in the 7 second region, so I'd rely on that rather than what Toyota say. Top speed is 140mph and some people claim it is easy and others say you have to work hard for it, but I've never been there myself, so can't comment.

In terms of differences between pre-facelift and facelift models, you get the following on the facelifts:

  • 15mm suspension drop
  • Front Strut Brace
  • Better body styling (in my opinion)
  • Auto sensing wipers
  • red and black cloth interior seats
  • red stitch detailing
  • alloy pedals
  • 2 doors less as they scrapped the 5 door versions

There are probably other differences but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Hey thanks for the info there :D i knew theres speculation with the 0-60 times,as for handling nothing a good lower and a decent set of dampers/ tyres wont sort out i hope anyway, in terms of staight line perfoamce what sort of power car leage is it in?

kinda seems like ive targeted just the power but after all ive brought a perfance hatch for a reason :|

You can find some clips from youtube where tsports do 0-60mph / 0-100kmh under 7secs. :)

From letstorquebhp:

- Corolla TS 1210kg

- Celica TS 1215kg

- Corolla TS Compressor 1280kg

Don't know are those facts?

Facelift is much better looking as a stock.

I think this is part of the problem when discussing this subject, everyone gets their figures from different places and everyone has their own opinions.

I think you'll find the Celica is a bit lighter than stated (possibly 1145kg), the pre-facelift corrolla TS is about 40kg heavier than the post facelift at about 1255kg. That makes for about 100kg difference, think you may find the Celica is around 7 second mark, add a few tenths for the TS pre facelift time to 60.

Compressor is a little heavier again, about 1300kg I think, and that hits 60 just under 7 secs.

Same model cars will perform slightly differently (even if they are supposed to be identical), especially when you're talking about differences of tenths of a second. Then you have driver differences on top of that. So people will always give you different figures acheived on drags etc.

Look at the thread on reasons for buying ie sleeper etc. At the end of the day, buy the car if you like it!
