Corolla T3 1.4 D-4d (hatchback) Clutch Problem

Ihave been a very happy Corolla owner up to just over a week ago when I experienced a drive failiure-control system seemed to select neutral of it's own accord and could not be put back in gear until switched off and switched on again. As this action reqires holding footbrake on this could be very dangerous. Local dealer analysed control sytem and came up with code P0810 fault. Car is 3years and 4 months old-just out of warranty and has done 28792 miles. Dealer has approached Toyota to see if they will accept a retrospective guarantee claim -still awaiting answere.

We have lost confidence in the car since do not knoew if/when this can happen again. If dealer makes a repair-not sure what this means does anyone have the experience that such an action will be a complete success. No re-occurence of this problem.

Not many MMT problems on the corolla hatch but Verso is very different .See http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...;hl=MMT+gearbox

Other posting on the Verso forum indicates tha Toyota are changing over to Ford type box.

I have had no problems with my MMT coming up for four years old.

Would be interested on how your problem resolved. The Code PO810 is just a generic code indicating faulty clutch.

Strangely, I experienced an identical failure of my Corolla's MMT sytem, on Wednesday 6 August, in the middle of a busy road junction. My car has done only 35,000 miles and the official warranty period has recently expired, in April 2008. So far all that Toyota have offered is a reduction on the cost of parts (to £650) and the local franchised garage has offered me a reduction on the labour rate. Even so my bill would be about £1500. Today (11 August) I have been told that Toyota can't supply all the parts, and I am waiting to hear when the remaining parts can be delivered. This is turning into a saga and I intend to seek financial redress from Toyota for a design/manufacturing fault which renders the vehicle unsafe and whose repair cost is disproportionate to the value of the vehicle. You'd think Toyota, being the world's largest vehicle manufacturer, would care more for their reputation.

Quoted cost seems ridiculous for a gearbox repair. Usually keep my car for many years but it looks as if it would be wise to sell as it is now out of warranty and get something else. Apart from the economy the MMT box can be a bit awkward in certain situations and if Toyota are ditching their system for the variable belt design it does not inspire a lot of confidence.

I have never had a gearbox problem on any car and for yours to fail at 35,000miles is very bad and the Toyota offer is derisory.
