2001-2002 - 5dr Or 3dr?

Hey guys and girls,

Not really much of a 'problem' per se. I'm looking to buy a Toyota Corolla and officially join you guys.

The thing is i'm 20 years of age so obviously the well loved T sport, is out of the question, since the insurance companies can be real... anyway..

So i'm thinking of the next best option which is the 5dr T spirit, whether it be 1.4 or 1.6, but I like something sporty with the benefits of the T spirit. The problem with this is if I get a 3dr i'd be limited to T3.

Theres probably no other place better to ask whether a 3dr T3 is better than a 5dr T sport... I can see this being quite a debate lol...

Speak your mind

I know what you mean thebestdriver, just before i got my T-Spirit, the T-Sport was only in 3dr and i wanted a 5dr :censor:

But being toyota, they announced they would be releasing a 5dr version T-Sport, only 6 weeks after i got mine :crybaby:

Yes you are right about limited choice in a 5dr version corolla, but would be good if you found one, esp if it was a T-Sport ;)

I think the T3 is a good car, but just a few features missing from it to make it a T-Spirit, and even more features missing again to make it a T-Sport

If it's you 1st car, or even you being a young driver, a T3 is still a good choice, and would make sense on your insurance.

ah i agree with u totally man, are you happy with the T spirit? Its most likely the car I will infact be buying. I like the luxury features, i'm thinking a bit ahead of people my age in that I don't need a sporty looking car since i'll be driving it, a nice cabin and comfort is more important to a driver.

The 5dr T sport is group 14 and the 3dr is group 13!... have you modified the T spirit in anyway?...

Cheers!

I'm very happy with the car, had it from new, and still fun and easy to drive, even my son wants it when he grows up :o

I don't think you could ask for much more features in the T-Spirit, only apart from go quicker, but then that will come at a premium

The car is standard upto the audio install, which is discreet and stealth looking so not much to give away until you hear it ;)

I was in a similar situation the t3 was what i originally set out to buy but i wanted a 5dr as my opinion is at the end of the day it's a hatch back and one of it's main features is practicality and a 3dr just is so less practical people getting in and out the back is a nightmare and certainly wears interior more such as carpet and sides of seats then everytime you put on the seatbelt you've to reach considerably further back, you have larger heavier doors making parking that bit more difficult. I know i sound like an old man but if i'm getting a three door it's going to be something that's not a compromise such as the celica. As for the T-Spirit GO FOR IT it's so much better finished with the aluminum effect trim and sunroof which i can't live without now and climate control etc etc

Yeah I think i'm definitely convinced now. I didn't even think about the wear until you mentioned it. And the T spirit is definitely good, thinking of hot summers and cold winters, all you really want is comfort. Not many people agree with me when I say it but a sunroof is a must have, Currently I have a car with a sunroof and it just feels right when its open, more light comes in and the cabin feels more spacey.

But I agree with you on the 3dr thing, you can't make a hatchback as sporty as a sports car :P

Btw, whats the 6 speaker sound system like on the T spirit? and overall are you happy with it?..

I guess thats cool, I've been doing some audio projects myself but nothing as detailed as what you've done, looking at your pictures. Did you make those modules in the boot?.. I might do that also, i've always wanted a sub but they're absolutely huge, and i'm usually worried about them taking up too much space.

I tried to do the install myself at first, but lack of time and everything, i got a pro installer to do it for me.

Although my sub looks big, it sits to one side of my car nicely, i could of got a 12" sub in there too with about the same amount of space used, and having the amp on the other side makes it look really tidy.

The space i got left in the middle, is about the size of a suitcase, so ample to get the weekly shopping in it still without bashing into any of the install.

The T-Spirit 6 speaker system, don't be fooled at all by that, all that mean, the front door has midrange speaker at the bottom of the door with tweeter mounted by the mirrors, and the rear door has a set of full range Speakers mount there, so if you count them, 6 Speakers in total.

It would be worth changing the front Speakers for something better, as that where the most amount of sound your going to hear, use the rears as a fill in and if necessary for the rear passengers
