For those with Corolla T Sport and spooky headlights...

This is just what I've been told. I just got a phone call from local Toyota dealer and they confirmed that Toyota Motor Corporation (representatives in Finland) are aware of the problem.

I was told that the problem has been tracked to Corolla electrics which cannot maintain system voltage under heavy loads and thus cause a drop in voltage. The electrics seem react slowly to increased power demans.

I was told that they are now evaluating how to fix the problem, and it might be an update to software or even completely replacing car's computer unit. They were not able to tell when exactly the fix will be available, but promised to keep me updated.

I'm not mad (what a relief) but lights on Corolla really dim from time to time. Please check your local Toyota dealers if they are aware of this development.

Cheers,

Petri

Do we know what the situation is with this and whether a recall will be issued.

I've noticed this and was wondering what the crack would be at a dealer. Would they deny knowledge etc.

Cheers:)

Hi,

just to make sure you understand - dealers will fix any issues under the warranty, as long as they got approval from Toyota... so plz dont blame your dealers ;-)

I hope Toyota fixes the issue... I did not notice it on my TS though...

I'm sure the dealer tried to do their best, and they've always been very friendly and helpful. I find it hard to belive that Toyota isn't able to provide a solution. Unfortunately it seems (at the moment) that Toyota is unable to provide a fix under warranty.

I'm considering now one of the following options:

a) do nothing

b) escalate the matter directly to Toyota Finland

c) wait until Toyota solves the problem and there will be a fix/service recall

d) wait until someone else finds out the how to fix it, and I will fix the spooky lights at my cost

e) take the car to a specialist car electrics shop and have them to look at the car (my worst option...)

I think that's the best option, it's free and at least I get a direct response from Toyota. Funny, this brings back a lot of memories...the last time I remember having problems with car electrics was in my 1965 VW Beetle with 6V electric system...;)

A response from Toyota subsidiary in Finland within 45 minutes, good job...I've tried to translate the reply:

"We're very sorry to hear about the fault in your car. Toyota is aware of the fault. The changes implemented in car's computer unit will take some time to test and approve. We have informed your dealer xxx and they will contact you as soon as we have received replacement parts in Finland."

Hi all,

Just had the optional subwoofer upgrade on my T-sport which in theory should use more voltage, yet I don't have any of the problems mentioned. Am I just lucky or are the rest of you unlucky? Anyway hope you get a satisfactory solution to the problem and I hope it doesn't spoil your fun too much!!! Cheers,

John.

Hi guys,

Do you remember Corolla T Sport spooky light problem? Well, I have been waiting...waiting...waiting a response from Toyota. I almost gave up. While on a holiday in Budapest (nice city...) I got a call from my dealer this week , and guess what...they claim to have a fix available, in stock and ready to be installed. Yep, tomorrow I will visit the dealer and have it installed. Check your dealers for a fix.
