I've just finished changing an alternator on a Carina E 1.6 Kudos Extra. The previous one was the original and 161000 miles later had finally given up.

I have replaced the unit as per Haynes manual.

Disconnect Battery

Disconnect alternator

Slackened the tension on the belt

Undo bolts top and bottom of alternator

Slide out alternator

Insert new one

Tension belt

Reconnect alternator

Reconnect Battery

Started no problem, and belt is not slipping but I have NO electrics! Nothing apart from lights and hazards. No power steering, no indicators, no wipers, no dials.

Any thoughts? All ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

check that the gauge and the ignition fuses have not blown, these will cause your electrical problems. the power steering is a hydraulic pump which is belt driven, check the belt tension of the smaller belt.. hope this helps you.

I'll check it out, thanks.
