I have a 05 Corolla in Silver Steel. There are a couple of minor chips on the paint work that have rusted. Can someone advise on how to best deal with this and where I can get the appropriate colour to fix it, I'm in Bolton. I went to Halfords today and looked at some touch-up kits they do but they did not have the Silver Steel unfortunately.

Others will be better placed than me to advise on the rust issue - no doubt Halfords sells something - but I would recommend getting the touch up paint from your local Toyota dealer. It will probably cost a bit more but at least it should be the best match. The small Toyota metallic touch up packs usually come with two things - the paint and the clear lacquer.

I had this on my car due to the high motorway miles.

To get rid of the rust I got a small file and scraped away the remaining rust, then painted it with a touch up kit from Halfords.

Halfords make the touch up kit to order infront of you, go to the parts desk and ask the guy to make the silver steel touch up kit for you.

My Corolla is Balearic blue which the guy at Halfords told me they didnt do it, but I had bought it before so told him to carry on looking on his computer, which he did and in the end he found it (the lazy :censor: )

I left the paint to dry for a few days, then I used T-Cut to blend it in better.

Then put some lacquer on it and it worked a treat!

Halfords have something called 'Krust' which can control the rust chemically.

For the paint order it from your local Toyota dealer. They get the paint code for the car. The pack from Toyota is only about £7.

Should also say - if its rusted then its down to bare metal - you'd be better to use a primer first.

I touched up a chip on bare metal and it just came away after a few days. Again Halfords do one that has a rust treatment in it.

I just picked up a pollen filter and some touch up paint for my car from a toyota dealership selling on eBay (sorry about the lack of loyalty Parts-King) for £27 delivered. Just tell them the paint code you want and they will send it out to you :)
