Aircon Not Working

Had new alternator fitted Monday (04/08/08) now Aircon not working, blowing warm air out, changed cabin filter, had no affect.

Garage mechanic said that they would not have needed to touch the aircon pump to remove the alternator.

Car is 03 Avensis D4-D T3-X with climate control

Is there a possibilty that a relay may have failed due to the alternator failing, is so which one and where is it located.

:ffs: :help::eek:

hi

has yr air con been working before ?

are you sure the problem is with relay???

what about leakproofness of aircon gas system??

is aircon pump rotated???

thanks

My man at the garage said today that he didn't need to touch the Aircon pump to replace the Alternator

Aircon was working fine upto getting car back last night but he advised me to run the car home with minimal electrics on so that the Battery could be fully recharged, so I was unable to check it.

Is it possible that it may have a leak due to the alernator being changed

sure

in case of tube damage by a wrench

I had a new aircon pump fitted in April this year after original failed after 97k, when they regassed the unit they put a blue dye in (normal?) would there be any visual evidence from looking under the bonnet for a leak

hello

the only special halide leak detector is able to disclose a gas leak. you'll never disclose it visually.

you can follow very simple steps to determine performance of yr aircon pump asf:

- set temp as low as possible - let's say +16 C;

- leave the engine running and close saloon doors;

- open bonet + remove plastic covers arround the engine;

- it is understood in ccase of air con compressor is running then the engine fixes its RPM arround 900-1000;

- to be touched delivery tube from th ecompressor and it must be hot;

- to be touched suctoin tube to compressor and it m ust be cool with condensate (in summer time);

- to be touched bon IN and OUT from refrigerant heat exchanger that is located before collant heat exchanger.

also you should evaluate whether refrigerant heat exchanger ribs are clean or not to reach good performance to cool.

The above is sufficicent to evaluate performance of yr air con system.

In case both delivery and suction tubes joined to compressore have the same (similar) temp then this unit is out of order or has problem with clutching.

Firstly check with the above.

Cheers/Igor

Hi,

Not sure about yours, but on my corolla the alternator 'fan belt' goes around the aircon compressor.

This should be obvious if they've had a second look, but have they forgot to put this belt on? Or put a smaller belt on and missed out the aircon compressor?

yes i agree with your statements in full.

i have the same kinematics and air con compressor is driven by the same belt.

cheers
