Petrol is cheaper over in France, even with the £ on its ar$$e against the €

You can get there avoiding the toll roads quite easily by going the coastal route which is very scenic.

Maybe cheaper and more relaxing to go via Newhaven to Dieppe, let the ferry (or catamaran) take the strain ;)
