Picnic Versions And Pricing

Hi, Looking to buy a late model Picnic 2000/2001, we had a 1998 GX but it was written off. Confused by the model versions, I assume GL is most basic, but what's the difference between GLS and SE ? Prices at dealers seem high compared to valuation web sites, assume this is dictated by supply and demand. eg £3995 for 2001 GLS with 70K miles, should I be looking at early Avensis Verso instead. Any advice or guidance appreciated - thanks.
