Mounting An Intercooler..

HI Guys,

i know this topic has been covered before but i cant seem to find the thread.

i have been looking into mountung a intercooler on my compressor. Had a quick look on at the front of the car i think that the intercooler would sit perfectiy between the grooved hole on my tte bumper.

im no expert when it comes to things like this but i am a big enthusiast..so i would really appreciate advice from those more experienced!

so questions:

The size of the intercooler? isit the bigger the better?

i heard that if i was to fit an intercooler it would involve me remaping the ECU for fueling purposed? is that true? or is there any other way round it ?

what materials would i need? and additional parts? costs?

If i had chosen to do so.. what could i expect from fitting the pipes and intercooler? would it be easy? DIY?

is there any tuning companies that would happily take on this job for me? costs?

In terms of performance what can i expect to gain once its all up and running?

Thanks guys!

shaun

You will loose power with intercooler setup in your car, its the shape of the intake that is making it hard for us to intercool it, and it will make boost lag.

sorry for sounding "thick" but when you say shape of the intake what do you mean?? will an intercooler only benefit a specific shape?

You can see it on this photo;

This is the blitz supercharger on our engine and its the same supercharger that we have but the intake is diffrent from the Compressor intake, to make intercooler setup for us you will need to have the pipes with some sharp corners and you will loose power and air-flow with this corners. But with this Blitz setup the intake is on the right side so its much easier for the air-flow to inter the intake..

Sorry for my english.

ic thanks for that... so you basically saying theres no real point or benefit to mounting an intercooler.. unless i can find away to smoth the piping to the intake?

Yup, and remember the bigger the intercooler will be there will be bigger boost lag ;) you dont want that to happen.

if you check out silverstone racing they have converted a t sport with the compressor conversion and then fitted an intercooler and tuned but a bit on the expensive side .dont no if this link will work but this is an intercooler kit for the corolla but there is an air pump where one of the pipes goes on ours so that would need moving.eBay Motors: godspeed 02-06 toyota matrix corolla intercooler kit (item 300230230739 end time Jun-09-08 11:41:29 PDT)just put in the item number and you will see the item
