Verso Engine Management Light

My Yaris Verso's engine management light comes on, but has no effect whatsoever on performance, etc. My local garage has plugged their computer in and the fault code offers 2 alternatives.

1. Fuel filter. Toyota confirmed that this is a lifelong filter so offer no spares.

2. Air flow meter. This would cost £102 + VAT + fitting. Garage said that they could not guarantee that this would solve the problem and, as it is only an advisory fault, they suggest just driving with the light on!

The only thing wrong with the car is that occasionally, when pulling off, the engine has a flat spot so you need to rev somewhat unless you stall. Apart from that it’s a nice car, roomy, reliable and, above all, economical.
