Musically Challenged Corolla

Got a P reg Corolla Si and am very happy with it apart from one thing. While I am driving the car with the stereo on sometimes the stereo goes off for no obvious reason and also the clock on the dash dims and eventually fades to nothing. After a few seconds everything comes back on and works fine, for a little while.

Also when the car is left the clock loses its time and the stereo loses its preset stations, it is an after-market JVC thing and I did think that maybe the previous owner had wired it up wrong but took it out and it all seems fine to me so I am now at a loss as to what it could be, any siggestions would be extremely appreciated, many thanks

long shot,

but it sounds like it is not earthed properly.

I'll go take a look, if it ever stops raining, thanks very much

Soldered a length of wire to the earth lead of the stereo and earthed it to the body, so far it seems to be working but the problem was intermittent so i'll keep my fingers crossed
