Just been surfing around looking at what could replace the Rolla when time come and i came across this:

Mazda 3 MPS - Not a bad replacement until i saw the road tax costs (Proposed)

2008 - £400

2009 - £415

2010 - £750!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o

No wonder you can get a 12mth old 7,000 miler for 12k, if the road tax stays as proposed the cars value will be 6k next year, 3k the year after and Zero after that!

Oh my god, looks like i will have to buy an Pre March 2001 - Hummer  as it will be £185 & £185 & £200!!!

The worlds gone mad, the chancellor needs a serious slap, Jeremy Clarkson for PM

Tax is high enough as it is. No bugger will be able to afford to get to work in a decent car if they keep going sky high!

Ah but they will, thats the disgraceful thing about the clowns in power and their lack of intelligence, any pre March 2001 is £200 max so buy anything you want provided its an X reg or older.

A 2001 X Reg Range Rover 4.6 Petrol Auto is half the road tax of a 2001 Y Reg 2.0 Petrol Auto Mondeo - The mind boggles about which fool came up with these ideas.

£750 is the first year rate for a brand new one bought in 2010.

The maximum regular annual rate is around £440.

and to add even more confusion...

i had a 04 reg evo8 private import. i only paid £185 per year as it was registered as plg. other uk evo8 were paying £270+.....

same car but registered differently........also i was able to go through a mot with a decat as emission were set higher....lol

for the performance the corolla is quite low on the tax rating…for now ;)

I stand corrected, still £750 per year for a £18k car with 5 doors and a big boot is crazy.

Ooooooo, don't get me started on this!!! :ffs:

Where did I put that soap box of mine.....

It must be easy to make these decisions from London with (although severely over crowded) the tube at the end of your street. If I bus to work there and back it takes two and a half hours, or TWENTY MINUTES both ways by car - it's like having a life shortening disease!! I've no choice but to pay it when our rolla 'gas guzzlers' eventually go up, as it's my life expiring in the bus stop otherwise. :(
