Dash Lights Failure

B]Recently i installed a kenwood cd player in my 1992 Toyota Camry. When i fired up the car for the first time after i hooked the deck up, i noticed my dash board lights were not working. I think i've checked all fuses, not sure if I burned out the dimmer switch or not. I've tired hooking up the original tape player and still the dash lights remain out. All other lights on the car is working properly. If you have any ideas as too what could have caused the problem.. plz help me out...would be greatly appreciated. :help: Oh yeah..I been looking for help on this problem all day. All i seem to find are people with the same problem, yet no solutions. :help:

The problem is that when you removed the standard Toyota radio/cass and installed the Kenwood unit, you disconnected the radio/cass illumination wire and did not re-connect it to the Kenwood unit, hence you have broken the circuit and that is why the dash lights will not work either. This wire normally lights up the stereo (even when its not switched on) when you swtich on the headlights.

Solution: Remove the kenwood unit, get a test meter, switch on headlights and test until you get around 12v, confirm it is the illumination power output by killing the headlights and the voltage on the test meter should drop to zero.

If your Kenwood unit does not have illumination wire, then simply connect the illumination wire from the vehicle to the power wire on the Kenwood unit.

Or has a fuse gone elsewhere?

I had the same problem in my Citroen Xantia.

Fitted new headunit and then all the lights on the dash seemed to die, none of the fuses in the dash were gone but after looking under the bonnet i found a burnt out fuse.

Double check all your fuses because it may save you a lot of fiddling around trying to remove bits of your dash board again. :)
