Looking better at the Diagram that HOOVIE Posted here: http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86114, i see that on the R3 connector that is the only one that i haven`t connected i see that the pin number 16 is Speed Pulse so maybe i can connect it direcly to this wire if i can find a suitable connector for the B9001?? or is this only for the board computer??

does Toyota sells it separatly? Does anyone knows the part number ?

If your speed signal input is to a 5 pin grey connector, then I think the part number for the connector may be:

90980-11909

I don't know whether this is just the Shell or is the connector plus crimps/wires. I don't know whether Toyota sell connectors separately, they appear to in some countries. Best check with your dealer, to see if the part number above makes sense.

Yes, I think R3 pin16 is worth a try.

Cheers

Ok, thanks, just tell me: that part number is just the connector itself or does it came with the wires?

I also find these: http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/o...tors/index.html

I think it could be useful.

Park Brake

It's not necessary to connect the park (hand) brake signal. I think it's only used if the head unit supports things like DVD video. It's to turn the video off when the park brake is off, to try to stop you watching and driving. I can't see what else it could be for. This signal usually gets connected to ground when the park brake is on.

I think the park brake signal is available from the passenger side junction box (behind the glove box) on connectors 3Q pin3 or 3G pin 5 or 3B pin 1. You can check this by measuring the resistance from one of these pins to ground with a multimeter with the ignition key at "off". Resistance should be high with the park brake off and close to zero with it on. Alternatively measure the voltage at this pin with ignition "on". Should be zero volts with park brake on.

Reverse Signal

The reverse signal is only necessary if your head unit supports a reverse camera and you want to fit one. This signal usually goes to 12V when reverse is selected.

The reverse signal is available on J6 (I'm not sure where that is - probably behind glove box again or similar position on drivers side) on pins 28,38,48 for left hand drive. Check this with a voltmeter, with the vehicle ignition "on". It should go to 12V with the vehicle in reverse.

HOWEVER, I've looked at a wiring diagram for a 4.2 RAV after July 2003. For the navigation system, it already shows the same 5 pin grey connector. This might already be present in your wiring harness. Might be worth looking behind the dashboard first, to see if it is there.

Rave, Please please send us some Portuguese sunshine. We should be used to rain in the UK, but it's crazy at the moment - far too much :(

Reverse Signal

The reverse signal is only necessary if your head unit supports a reverse camera and you want to fit one. This signal usually goes to 12V when reverse is selected.

I only have direct experience of the Honda Unit, but on that unit, there was a parking brake and reverse cables that needed connecting even though there was no reverse camera and DVD and the rational was as follows:

Brake Signal- so you could not set the Sat Nav while driving. I believe some units have the Sat Nav controls linked to the Speed Signal so they are disabled over a certain speed.

On the more modern units with DVDs, that disabling DVD screen function on a moving car is - I think - a legal requirement for installers to fit (but users can disable  )

Reverse Signal - so the unit knew when you were reversing the car and the car would go backwards on the Sat Nav Map. Without the reverse connected, when I drove backwards, the car in the map went forwards until the GPS signal decided there was a too much of a mismatch and recalibrated the position.

I personally never connected either as 1) being able to adjust the sat nav on the move is very useful and 2) I never drove so far in Reverse I had to worry about satellite navigation running backwards correctly!

Well I can confirm you don't need the park brake signal connected for many (if not all) of the Toyota units, to change various sat nav settings. It's vehicle speed signal only that prevents that, as I stated further up the thread.

You might have a point about the reverse signal being influential in making the map pointer go backwards, but I've never checked that.

I've had all three of these signals on change-over switches for sometime, so that I could

  • Play with their functionality
  • Enter sat nav stuff while moving
  • Enable the camera video input at will (not necessarily feeding video from a camera though), without needing reverse

Ok, just re-done it, and connected the Speed pulse from the board computer (pin 16) and it Works !!!!! Did not connect the Park Signal and i still just can change settings when on moving, but that`s fine with me, did not conneccted reverse either. :D B)

I will post some pics later now that i`ve taken some, cause there are still 2 NOT connected, connector on the back of the Unit that i don`t know what are they for hope you will help me on that.( it`s a white one with 10 Pins and a black one with 4 pins)

Looks goods

I think you already found the answers yourself for those connectors:

I'm fairly confident the 4 pin is for a reversing camera and the 10 pin is probably another video input.

Could the 10-pin connection be for the Traffic Avoidance system?

I bought a TNS200 on eBay which came with a Traffic module thingy add-on and I sort of recall a connector that looked that that? I sold it again as I could not get hold of a sat-nav loom at a sensible price and decided the little screen on the 58812 was too silly for sat-nav anyway

That looks very nice

So how much did the setup cost you in the end? The Radio unit and maps?

I think i was lucky to be the only bidder to this unit on eBay.it and it cost me 400 €, the Maps cost me 42 € on eBay.de and i think it was a nice price, but since it camed with 3 DVD and i only needed the WEST i`m selling the other two: East and Central (the person who sold me kept the North one) on E-bay and i`m about to recovery the entire amount that i gave for the 3 dvd`s, so i think i can say that it cost me 400 € plus the x-carlink, i think it was a reasonable price for the looks and the features, but not easy to find... :D

Could you post which countries are on which CD - could be handy reference in the future

I am guessing North is Scandinavia? Does West Include UK, Ireland and France?

For the TMC the only thing you have to connect is the TMC antenna, (the module is already inside the unit) i didn`t connect it cause i don`t have one and cause in Portugal TMC doesn`t work :(

North i don`t know cause i don´t have it, but the others i will send you the link on e-bay and i see for your self the countrys that are highlighted on the DVD itself:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320294521250

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320294519591

I have one of all the Europe too that camed inside the Unit but is 2004-2005 :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320294511809

West is the more complete one it as at least Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Belgium, Germany and some other closer Country`s.

I think it is effectively very similar to PC VGA type signals although the aspect ratio and sync frequency are proabably non-standard.

Would appear you can get a multimedia interface for this model: (Does the rear connector view look familiar?).

http://www.connects2.com/Instructions/CT90-TY02.PDF

So, with this you could input any composite video signal as well I expect.

That`s great news SHCM, i`m wondering what they mean by this title: "Multimedia Video input interface for Toyota original monitor in vehicles without navigation. " on the pdf, also i`ve seen on their site and there are no prices... do you think i have to register to see them??? http://www.connects2.com/c2search.aspx?cat...2&modID=598

Thanks

I think you do have to apply for an account. They are the manufacturers.

as an idea, about 230 UK pounds here:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/p...ts_id/6154.html

if you go for it, I suggest you make sure it will still work with your ipod interface, but it does look like it will still work with a standard CD changer connected as well.

For that price i think i will not, cause really here in Portugal is forbidden by law to use video sources and screens on the front (dash) just for the rear passengers...

I have this interface! Only used it for a backup camera on my previous touchscreen.

Rearview camera have direct connection on the new touchscreen now so took the interface out.
