I got my car back today after getting the exhaust replaced.

I then got told that the water pump needs replaced becasue there is a sweat in the one that is in there but not leakiing but there is a new modified one which i require.

Apparently every second aygo that comes in needs it... so go get yours :P

On warranty :P

Must keep an eye on the coolant level, more than I do now!

At what mileage did yours start sweating, Vicky?

Is the sweating quite noticeable?

Do you know if the pump is on the drive belt side of the engine (as normal) or at the end near the radiator? That is where it seems to be, where the water pipes are attached to the engine.

I would'nt go so far as every second one, but they are not unknown to go ;)

Yeah, i've just had mine replaced. They noticed a small leak during it's 3rd service and replaced it under warranty.

Where do you look for the tell-tale signs of a leak?

Buddy,

Could this be the cause of the "whining" that there are a few threads on here at the mo about?

Could be ,but it seems more likely to be gland seals not lasting or (unlikely) porous casting.

I am used to water pumps being driven by the drive belt on the timing chain end of the engine (left side, looking into engine bay of an Aygo), but as there are no water pipes there ,I presume the pump must be on the "clutch" end of the engine and that is where to check for leaks when doing one's regular maintenance and safety checks each week.

Oh I have a sorry tale to tell...

I bought my Aygo six months ago, and it soon developed a weird wining noise. Eventually i figured it was just the joys of a small and dinky car. I sort of got used to it.

On Boxing day on the M20 the fan belt fell off, the stop, temperature and Battery light came on, and i limped it off the motorway and was recovered by the AA.

It seems after investigation by Toyota that the water pump had siezed, which caused the weird wining/graunching noise, and then this broke the fan belt.

The car is 1 month out of it's 3 year warranty, and has only done 14000 miles.

I have to wait today to see if the overheaing has damaged the engine any. i have my fingers and toes crossed. I am hoping Toyota will be nice to me out of 'goodwill' but i am pretty worried I'm facing a big bill.

Wish I'd had the wining noise investigated now.

:crybaby:

Water pump is on the timing chain end of the engine, same belt runs the alternator and A/C (if fitted)

Mart.
