Can't seem to convince them to go Jap!
Probably because there are just as many postings by owners with issues on this forum as any other manufacturers car forums.

Most cars are made of parts sourced all over the place. ABS blocks are all Bosch, tyres and brake parts are made by a multitude of suppliers. The components are all put together in factories all over the World. So my Jap Toyota has a Bosch braking system, Dunlop tyres and was put together in Turkey, very Japanese.

I still have the faith in the Japanese car manafacturer, yes they have niggles but more other makes have serious design and engineering issues. Japanese cars are still proven to be the most reliable year in year out.

How the world record was acheived must have involved some of the most painful and boring driving ever recorded. When the Pug plods with Air Con off at 56 it shows a steady 80 MPG, so it would be possible. However touch the throttle at all and it affects the figures dramatically. It must have done in a very flat place as well.

Averaging 1919km per 60-litre tank

They drove 14,580km around the country

Final fuel consumption figure of only 3.13 litres per 100km or 90.75 mpg!! Breaks the previous record belonging to a Peugeot 307 of 3.49 litres per 100km

Only 90.3* grams of CO2 produced per km

Best tank achieved 1988km from 58.98 litres, giving a theoretical range of 2020km if all 60 litres were used
