Corolla

Has anyone else noticed...

Corolla 2000 to 2002, 1.6 ltr VVTi engine: 48 mpg.

Corolla 2003 to present. 1.6 ltr VVTi engine: 39 mpg.

Why does the new version of the Corolla give such a poor consumption figure compared to the older model, even though they have the same engine?

The way fuel economy figures are calculated changed over the last few years, but it will probably be mainly due to weight and different performance figures.
