Hi everyone, just received my new platinum. I have to say I love it. Downgraded from my BMW 1 series , which was a 1.6 petrol but only did 29mpg, which is ridiculous. I was putting petrol in all the time and it was costing me a fortune. Wife just bought a new Freelander so no need for the BMW anymore so it was the perfect opportunity. I looked around and went to the Smart garage but I felt that I was wanting that car even though it didnt have things like power steering, metallic paint, air con etc and wasnt a decent drive. Test drove the toyota and it was perfect for me.

Done about 70 miles and the first bar on the fuel gauge still hasnt disappeared which is brilliant, in the BMW I would have had to put more fuel in.

Its a bit bumpy sometimes compared to the BMW but I can live with it. The steering is a lot lighter than the BMW and the steering wheel feels great. The one thing I do miss is having radio controls on the steering wheel.

Very Happy with it. :)

Hi

I came out of a 2.0l 180bhp hot hatch into the Platinum four months ago. I do miss a couple of silly things (like auto lights, auto wipers, wheel mounted radio controls) but the fuel consumption more than makes up for it!

Another BIG "plus" is that you're not a Beemer owner anymore! ;)

I have no regrets after having a Hyundai Coupe Siii 2.0 Auto. Getting more MPG and my back is a lot better. :D

Hey welcome to the club, I would say you upgraded coming from a BMW :P

Am sure you will love your aygo, maybe there is a clever mod there you could do to get the controls onto your steering wheel. Have not heard but someone has to try it..lol

Glad to see everyone is happy with their vehicles. I have seen a few people raising concerns with different things which doesn't worry me yet...

I wished though that they had more colours available. I love that blue that you can get with the yaris. Not sure what its called. Like an Azzurri Blue . I would have loved that colour or normal blue like SJ. I was considering the slate blue but not as keen on that blue, even though it still looks nice.

I'll let you know if I have any problems or questions. One thing. Trying to get a smaller lead to connect my IPOD to the Aux port as Comet said they only do 1.5 metres as the smallest. Any ideas or pointers? I bought it £11 which is a bit of a rip off. :o

One thing i have noticed though. Other drivers tend to bully you as you are in a smaller vehicle. I have really noticed this. People assume that because your small they can dart in front of you or squeeze you out. :(

mines not normal blue, its lagoon blue, I have never been normal

As for the lead they are on fleabay, about £3

Do not get me started on the bullying, I do a lot of miles with mine and the countless times I have been stuck behind some rep saloon twoddiling along at 50mph reading a map, talking on the phone, eating lunch and generally self pleasuring himself only to look in his mirror and see an Aygo overtake him and decide, I aint having that and puts his foot down, I dont try and race vehicles I know I cant beat, but seriously if you dont want to be overtaken by a 1l engine then dont dirve so frigging slow [rant over]

Also I am not sure if its cos of my horns on my T Badge but seriously get off my *****, you aint going anywhere, I am stuck behind them too

I could rant forever about bad drivers.

If you replace the radio with an aftermarket model you have

several options for remote on or near the steering wheel.

I have a Kenwood in mine and have modified one of their remotes to suit my need:

Remote-Bracket.jpg

I ad a similar setup in my previous two cars and I really like it.

To cope with bigger cars bullying me, I installed a MASSIVE air horn B)

Most people can't believe wat they're hearing and stop harassing me instantly

What size are the tyres on the Aygo Platinum? I know they are 14" alloys, just wondered about the tyres...

Cheers

Standard is 155/65R14 T75

Thanks for the advice Sj and i guess we all feel the same about bad drivers. Those that dont indicate annoy me and those who dont say thank you when i let them in. I dont let people in anymore for this reason. :D THanks for the IPOD connector advice.

Thanks for the advice Jan regarding the steering wheel controls. and TVOR Jan is correct when he mentioned the standard tyres. checked them on mine. If im honest they are "thin" can you buy thicker ones? Not that I am going to change them yet but i bet it would even better with thicker ones.

Tyres are thin to be economical...

You can get wirde ones, but on 4,5J wide rims that will probably ook stupid...

I agree about losing steering wheel headuit controls,

i have recently sold my yaris tsport that had the steering wheel controls,

my new car does not have them.

I have got myself a Clarion headunit and a clarion steering wheel remote,

its infer-red so no need for any wires,

so i have got my steering wheel controls back :D

Welcome to the club

Seen an AYGO Platinum today, how thick and chunky is that steering wheel? :D

Love it

Does the Platinum have a trip meter? If so, one or two?

Posted

Yes, One...

Has anyone got pictures of the AYGO Platinum interior. Prefabably near the steering wheel so I can see the trip meter?

Jan I am surprised to see screw heads on the bracket you have installed as with everything else you have done looks as though it could have come from the factory. Is there no way to improve the looks or an alternative fixing method.

Posted

Well, at least the slots in the heads line up :D

This bracket is actually one of the first things I did. At first it was mounted with double sided sticky

tape, but due to the curve of the cowling AND the stupid diamond-pattern it din't stick too well.

I then tried a couple of pop rivets, but they pulled through the plastic as it's quite soft.

So I resorted to there small bolts with nuts on the inside. Since you can only see

them from the passenger side I never made any attempt at hiding them any more.

The lining up of the slots however IS on purpose to make it look slightly better...

On my Nissan 100NX I had a different steering column, so the bracket

was different and the same goes for the Ford Escort I had before that.

But I'll take it a a compliment that you think "everything else" (just my TID I presume) looks stock...

As for the question on the trip meter:

DSC00753.JPG

The button to switch between the Odometer (ODO) and Tripmeter (TRP) is beneath the zero

on the Speedometer. Holding it down for a couple of seconds when in TRP resets it and the

button is also used for some programming, like turning off the seatbelt warning beep...

what/how do you use the button for programming?

It's a sequence of pushing ad holding when turning on the ignition.

I've only done this for testing; mine still beeps (well again actually, as I turned it back on), but I can confirm it works.

Here's the instructions posted by REFZ on the CityBugClub forum, allthough I THINK they originated HERE:

How to set off the seatbelt beep?

When you don't have your seatbelt on and you drive faster than 15km/h you hear a warning sound, the seatbelt beep. The seatbelt beep will sound softly for 30 seconds and very hard for 90 seconds after that the beep will stop. A lot of CityBug user don't like the seatbelt beep and there is a option to set the seatbelt beep off.

After this modification the seatbelt beep is set OFF and you will no longer hear the seatbelt beep again.

I want to remind you that the seatbelt beep can be set ON again at any time.

Just use the instruction and reverse the setting of the seatbelt beep.

Disconnecting the Battery of the car will also set the seatbelt beep ON again.

When you set OFF the seatbelt beep and you drive without your seatbelt on, the beep will not sound but the red indicator on your display will still flash like it does normally. Setting the seatbelt beep OFF will not affect or change anything to the other safety systems in your car.

Although this modification is completely save, I can't take any responsibility for it.

When you make use of the instruction, it's at your own risk.

Instruction to set OFF the seatbelt beep:

• first set the ignition ON

• set the distance counter to ODO by pressing the distance counter knob

Beep01.jpg

• set the ignition OFF

• set the ignition ON again

• press the distance counter knob again for 10 seconds

Beep02.jpg

• close the seatbelt and keep the distance counter knob pressed in

• the display of the distance counter will show the tekst: "b - on"

Beep03.jpg

• release the distance counter knob again

• press the distance counter knob again shortly to switch between:

"b - on" and "b - off" and set it to: "b - off"

Beep04.jpg

• set the ignition OFF again

• modification done!!

Many thanks for that Jan, it really annoys me when I am parking in our works car park which is on 4 levels and after I have taken it off to show the security guy my card.

I wonder what else you can do with that sort of trickery.

That damn bleeping was about the only thing that annoyed me about the test drive Aygo I borrowed before I ordered mine.

Good to know you can turn it off without resorting to cutting some wires, which was what I was thinking about doing.

On a Landcruiser LC70 the Timing Belt light interval is reset with a similar procedure...
