Question - Not Sure What This Part Of The Front Bumper Is Called

Hello,

I just found this great forum and hope my post is in the right place.

I went through a very heavy flood at the weekend and while I was glad to get through it in my Rav4 I was annoyed to see my front number plate and another small panel had popped off. I am going to try and order a new part from my local Toyota dealer but am not sure what the part is called. Does anyone know the name of the panel with the ring around it in the picture below?

Many Thanks

It is the blanking plug for the RH towing eye. If it is available Kingo (parts_king) will post you one.

Hi and welcome - Kingo uses DHL (or is it TNT?) to deliver so if the delivery costs to Ireland are excessive, let me know and you can send it to my UK address and I can get it over within a few days - also, if you need a number plate let me know, I have an excellent contact who can do all sorts of styles inc absolutely street legal IRE plates for about £10 sterling plus about £3.50 delivery. Just had one for each bike delivered, both 7" by 5", one silver on black, one standard IRE

Thanks for the replies folks and for the kind offer Robert. I might take you up on that but must confess to being a real newb and not knowing what Kingo is. Is there a URL for this site?

Many Thanks

Kingo is a small perfectly formed robot who reads your mind and sends your parts required by Royal Mail Postman who delivers personally even on a Sunday. Also known as Parts-King, he is powered by Lindop in the Chester area and lives in the Parts departments there. You will see his posts throughout this forum - I'm assuming he's a 'he' having met his wife. He became robotic after a chance hurl in the bothmobile.

Thanks folks - I got in touch with my local dealer and it will cost £7 + VAT but another £28 + VAT to paint it. Does that sound reasonable? - it seems a lot to me. Do you know if parts_king will send them painted already?

Thanks

so £40 for a little bit of plastic  You could also try some breakers - they may well have this part in the right colour and only want a few quid for it?

There are some breakers who advertise on eBay as well so you could enquire with them?

The other day a Toyota garage charged me £45 for 4 litres of gear oil that I couldn't get anywhere else.

If it were me in your shoes I would buy the part and an aerosol of your colour (looks like Carbon Quarts on the photo) and do it yourself. Clean it first with cellulose thinners and then use very fine wet or dry (about 1000 grit) to just take the glaze off. Clean it again with thinners before allowing about 20 minutes for any traces to evapourate. Lay out some news paper to prevent dust blowing up and elevate the cover on something like an old cotton bobbin so it is flat on its back then follow the instructions on the can to apply several coats. By lying it on its back you are less likely to get runs. Several thin coats are better than one thick.

Even if you make a mess you will hardly see it when stuck in the bumper. In fact if it comes in black plastic try it in the hole before you do anything. If it doesn't shout at you then leave it alone.

If you don't feel confident nip to a local body shop and ask them to do it for you but if you go down the Toyota route you will pay over the odds.

Cheers

Sadly the painting of plastics is a very expensive game, ordinary spray paint will fall off over time as it requires a plastisizer in the paint to stop it cracking. I get charged £30 plus VAT to paint a mirror cover by our own bodyshop

PM sent to you RAV Ireland, the part as you say is £7 but add a bit of postage and my price will end up more than a local purchase for you

Robert: It is TNT who do the honours for us...........or not as you maybe aware :D: (They couldnt find Robert last time and had a van out looking for him for a few days)

Bothy: I'm not sure "perfectly formed" is the description I would give of myself :D: but robot like I can live with (you become robotic answering 50 emails a day ;) ) I put my honed physique down to carefully selected steak pies and Stella Artois

Kingo

Thanks for all the replies and advice people - I really appreciate it. It's good to get someone elses view on the price and some advice about not spraying it myself which I was considering.

Cheers

This may seem a daft solution to your problem but if you are considering a front ( a bar) at any time it completely covers that part so you could either leave it out or buy an unpainted one, Now a silly question if you have an a bar and need to use the tow hook how do you get that piece out? I know there is a corresponding piece in the A bar or should it be removed when the A bar is fitted, which might possibly mean i have got a spare one in carbon quartz :unsure:

You're supposed to bin it during installation so that its only necessary to remove the outer plug. Has anyone who has had one fitted got the plug and willing to donate to RavIreland?

Well done Anchs, in my round about way this is what i was trying to say, My plug is still sat behind my A-bar,but i thought RavIreland had a C.Quartz rav in which case he could have mine, but his profile says his car is black, but surely this means dealers fitting A bars, must have loads of these in every color available, so if R.I. asks his MR T next time they fit a style pack to a black rav, could they save the plug which they are going to throw in the bin, it could be problem solved for the cost of a pint..

The Unscrupulous ones keep them and sell them pre-painted for a knock-down £30 - pays for a round of coffee & doughnuts :D

I might ask my local dealer if they have any knocking around

I got it sorted today ay my Toyota garage bodyshop - they were very decent and only charged me £20 for the part and painting including VAT since I bought the Rav there. I got a £15 mini-valet done as well and they fitted me a new number plate. I can't complain at all.

Thanks again everyone for the advice and help.
