Tick/knock On Acceleration

Hi All,

A friend of mine has an Avensis diesel (about a year old & 16,000 miles), and says on starting the engine from cold, it ticks/knocks on acceleration (the noise isn't there on the overrun) until the engine warms up a bit and then it fades away quite quickly. If the engine is restarted during the day, the noise doesn't recur.

I've read other posts on this subject and it appears to be an injector problem, but none of them mention the noise fading away as the engine warms up. Could this still be the same problem, or has he discovered another one?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

hi

read all posts again very carefully.

the diesel suffers form injectors performance.

i do not talk about injection timing but there are many other problems.

the most likely problem is with injection quality.

cheers

Igor

Sounds like injector knock to me, caused by an injector dribbling and not atomising the fuel properly. When the engine is warm, the heat helps atomisation so the knock becomes less severe or even goes completely.

you're on the right way with injectors atomizers.

But do not miss atomizing and heating when injected -- these are two diferent things.

The warmed up cylinder air is only helps to have knocking smooth in case of above.

Cheers/Igor
