Paint Problem

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately one mother of a seagull decided to use my car as target practice. This led to one of the largest vulture-sized bird craps you've ever seen!

On washing it off I noticed that it's gone and damaged the paintwork (or at least the lacquer anyway).

Is there any way of restoring it without having to get an expert in??

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I think that once the lacquer has been burnt then it will have to go to the bodyshop to be sorted out properly.

How long did you leave the bird poo on for?

I got a touch up kit from my local dealer to sort out my stone chips approx £5 IIRC

You get paint and lacquer in the kit, might be worth a go

Put some lacquer on yourself and allow it to dry for 2 / 3 days.

Then get a good compound or T-Cut and blend it back in to the car's paint.

p.s. Thanks to this post I went out in the rain and rubbed off all the bird poo on my car that I had left on there for a day

careful with t-cut, wouldnt use it myself but if i did i would water it down around 4:1. it may polish out as there are a couple of coats of laquer - i found diamond brite good but i got a load free, wouldnt pay the price places ask for it. got rid of loads of marks and blemishes that normal polish cant without streaking the finish.

I did try a bit of TCUT, made it smother but didn't really improve things too much. I guess it is a bit too deep into the lacquer.

I like the suggestion previously of adding some lacquer then smoothing it down, problem is I'm hopeless at that sort of stuff. Guess I might have to just get someone to have a look.

if its burned through Smoftahs suggestion will be your best bet. laquer is very easy stuff to spray and is reasonably forgiving. rub the area with some 1500 wet n dry. clean area with thinners then give 2 light wafts on the area - give it 2 weeks the use wet n dry, 2000 grit then polish up. if it aint right its only cost a fiver.
