Interim every 10k £155

Full every 20k £210

Other items like brake fluid are extra and prices vary dramatically so shop around.

Ouch. My last interim was around £105. May last full was around £190. Both done at Mr T.

Leading on from Anchormans comment, I looked at my invoices ...

EXCLUDING All Fluids and Consumables (so Labour charges, I guess?)

10k Service - £33.75 + VAT

20k Service - £93.70 + VAT

30k Service - £51.80 + VAT

Key Fluid costs: (all +VAT)

Engine Oil - between £22.50 and £30

Brake Fluid - £7.50

Gearbox Oil (75w/90) - £23.63

Gearbox Oil (80w/90) - £6.26

Oil Filters - £7.50

various other consumables as well

Total Charged costs for those services (INC VAT)

10K = £85 (inc 10% discount)

20K = £270 :eek:

30K = £105 (inc 10% discount)

I have read a few times that a good way to cut service costs (apart from doing it yourself) is to buy the fluids yourself and tell the garage to use the ones you bought rather then them supplying, as they charge the cost at a per litre container price rather then a 5 litre tin price in the case of engine oil, for example?

Does anyone actually do that? (I never have had the nerve!)

My brother does this with his 330i Beemer, at the service reception they told him this wasn't allowed, however when he showed his warrant card as Courtesy car ID, this issue disappeared, he also asks for any old parts (excl oil & filter :P ) to be left in the boot. He is soo tight :thumbsup:

I bet he marks the filter that is fitted and checks it is a different one when he picks his car up :D

3yr/30K £193.04 at Benfield Leeds -was going have it done at Lindop but the weather put paid to an intended weekend in that neck of the woods-would have been much cheaper.

I can't find any info on the brake fluid capacity but I am sceptical about whether 500ml (£7.50 worth) is enough. I always use nearer a litre when I do it which reinforces my preference of doing my own.

Just had a double-check to see if I got the right number ...

Nope - it wasn't £7.50 :rolleyes:

It was £5.25 (+VAT) :eek:

P/N quoted for brake fluid is T08823-80005 (and they did charge £33.47 on top for carrying out the Brake Fluid Service)

I noticed a few jobs on the forum for adding an ipod or fitting a window windshield - anyone done one for servicing?

It might be a good idea and encourage more of us to have a go.

On another note, removing the variables, roughly how many miles should the brake pads last?

Thanks

Most of it is here if you have a trawl around. I will organise them into maintenance tips as soon as I get chance. There is one on oil changes and one on gear oil changes and that near enough does it. Air and cabin filters are done and I will soon add pad changes.

Keep having to work in between doesn't help!

That would be fantastic!!!

Also it might help if you put down the age / mileage that you carry these out.

Thanks

Nick

  • 1 month later...

Hello All,

T180 coming up for its first year, 10000 mile interim service at the end of the month. So phoned around the Toyota dealers (central Scotland):

1. Shields Toyota, Hamilton: £152.10

2. Western Toyota West, Edinburgh: ~£180.00

3. Western Toyota East, Edinburgh: £224.00

Anybody had a service with any of the above? Any recommendations, or just go purely on cost?

Your No 1 option is only 3 miles from me but since I have issues with them I wont use them again. I went to Arnold Clark, Glasgow (Bishopbriggs)

Cost was £137.0 for first year/ 10K service.

My T180 will soon be due for the 20,000 mile service.

Any ball park figures on price from anyone who has had this done by Toyota fairly recently?

I recall a massive difference (25-30% I recall) between a couple of dealers when I had the 10,000 mile service.

I'm out in ML1-land. Arnold Clark in Bishopbriggs is 17 miles away but a bit awkward to travel away from/ back to.

Western Toyota West and East are near my base office and an easy bus connection from either dealer. But the huge discrepancy in the same company is amazing. And how can they charge £224 for an interim service? I got the guy to check, and he questioned why their other franchise was only charging £180 - they have the same price list.

I've had problems with Shields Toyota in the past with my old RAV4 STAX - but it was nearly 10 years ago, and it was a timing belt. They are only 5 miles away. So hoping they have improved; and replacing fluids shouldn't be too onerous for them.
