A/c Removal

Has anyone here with a TS ever removed the A/C unit to save weight? If so was it a ball ache to do and do you know roughly how much weight you saved by doing it?

Remove the A/C.... why on earth do that  The weight saving would be so minimal it would not be worth it

I never fill my fuel tank more than 50% for the weight savings ;)

I heard that not keeping the topping up the washing bottle helps too. Oh and there is T cutting the paintwork. Taking a layer of paint off helps with weight issues.

Sorry about the english. I was laughing too much. Just don't top up the washer bottle. It makes the car lighter.

Well that was productive. Older A/C units used to be copper coils and did used to weigh quite a bit, I just wondered if anyone had tried it on their TS. I'll make sure I go to toilet before each drive instead eh?

To remove the A/C to save weight is over the top IMHO

However, to answer your question, the A/C compressor weighs about 10KG and the dryer/condensor would be about 2KG..........oh and I forgot the gas must have some weight

I just don't think it would be worth removing

If you're really wanting to save weight ditch the spare tyre and remove the rear seats.

Removing the Air Con won't really make that much of a difference.

Lightweight alloys and a lightweight Battery will also help to drop the kilos without getting into "gutting the car" territory.

Performance is now much better, but the handling has suffered ;)

You could have saved a bit more weight by removing that grass hanging down from under the car

Don't be like that ! :P

As suggested, removing seats, interior, spare wheel, and fitting lightweight alloys etc will reduce the weight.

All easy to do - and all very easy to put back should you decide to sell the car. Stripping out the Aircon is a fairly big job - and an even bigger one to put it back.

Again, should you decide to sell the car, any potential buyer in their right mind would give it a wide berth if the aircon has been removed. Not worth it IMO

Why has nobody mentioned the loss of Bhp. Air-con takes 15-25 of them horses to run. Id rather have 'em turning the wheels personally.

Most a/c are easy to rip out. You need to check that the pulley is independant(usually is), and that you safely vent gas before removing pipework.

Who cares if you aint got a/c? You'll feel a lot cooler when you smoke them a/c laden losers!! If it gets hot, come back to the UK!!!

Surely the whole point of the thread implies that he doesn't want the aircon..........not a massive leap to conclude that the poster doesn't run the aircon, therefore the nett gains of switching it off aren't an issue.

Thats gobbledegook :P Youre not making sense. The point i am making is that the primary gain from removing a/c isn't weight loss. As most here have humourously pointed out. The motivator is how many horses are re-couped from not turning the pulley!! DOH :D

The whole point of this thread was to make the car faster. If you want a faster car just go and buy one. Trade in for a compressor or a porsche or something. Why would anyone want to remove nuts and bolts and stuff.

My apologies.. Got a bit carried away with the lost horses, it was all that chat about racing weight reductions

He's right.. Trade it in for a Compressor.

Then ditch the air-con. Its weighty and robs horses :toast:

The plan was if I manage to shift the motorbike, I'll be buying the TTE compressor to bolt on.
