When are you hoping to have her on track?

We dont have a set timeframe for a debut, just doing it as time allows, but things have been going very slowly lately. Getting the chassis to the painting stage is a big step forward as everything has been mocked up previously so hopefully we will find some new enthusiasm now...

So finally the chassis has had all its fabrication & welding completed & has been away and been sandblasted.

and then some paint on all its underside parts...

Looking good!

I know the feeling of it going slow, I hope this is the tipping point for you to get it finished.

Finally it lives....

Sorry its been a while since this thread was updated....

It seems to have taken forever to finally piece all the puzzle together, but we are 95% there...

Car has finally had all is plumbing & wiring completed and this week has finally been started. It still needs the ECU tuned, brake pads (these seem to have been lost in transit) and the front top arms modified before it can be driven, but after so long its nice to finally here it make some noise!

Here is a short clip of its initial start up.... http://www.youtube.com/user/Martman77#p/a/u/0/MWQ1-yZpoZg

and some pics of the (near) finished article

Well progress has been slow in the build up to the Christmas break & the car was ready & booked in to be dyno tuned early in the new year.

It finally made its first self propelled drive on Christmas Eve, albeit slowly…. but as you will see near the end of the video when the boss pops the clutch, it breaks the chain.

So the decision has been made to run dual chains. This means that its debut has been postponed while we re-engineer things, but it is “relatively” easy to do.

Here is the front sprocket we have had made to accommodate the dual chain…

pic8345.jpg

And now the rear sprocket done as well….

pic8347.jpg

Found a couple of other little faults with the car as well, so are now needing to redo the exhaust to make room for a muffler, a larger sprocket for the reverse gear & the addition of an altenator onto the rear axel to run all the electronics, data logging etc etc….

So its debut has been delayed for a bit longer yet….

As per the pics the MR-S has now had all its signwriting & graphix completed & even though the car itself still isnt 100% completed, it was good enough to have its first weekend away last weekend.

First had a photo shoot on Friday afternoon with New Zealand Performance Car Magazine

DSC04403.jpg

DSC04402.jpg

Then had the car on display at the 4 & Rotary championships, where we won the award for best engineering

DSC04980.jpg

Then to the drags on Sunday where the car was just on display again, and left on the trailer for people to see its nuts & bolts

DSC06100.jpg

Now we just need to finish re-mounting the reverse starter, altenator & make a modification to the front suspension top A arms & hopefully we will be ready for a dyno run/tune & then some testing!!!

Hey its been a while since this thread was updated as there has only been spasmodic progress on the car...

However the car was nearly finished enough to book for a dyno tune, so we booked it in at NZEFI in Christchurch, with the idea of it hopefully making its competition debut at the Ashburton Street Sprints on 14 May. Unfortunately they are booked that far ahead that this was looking impossible, until they phoned at 5pm one right with a cancellation if we could be there by 9am the next morning, so it was a rush & a late night getting the car finished & ready to go...

pic8355.jpg

So it has been for its dyno run & we ended up with 372hp at the rear wheels, which is pretty good straight up... and there is still a bit more in the tank. and a pretty reasonable rev range as well

img049.jpg

So the next step is off to the track for some testing, but both our local circuits only have one test day each between now & the Sprints (and the boss is away at Rally NZ for one of those) so it looks like we will only get one days testing & be taking a brand new car to the Sprints, of course providing that it performs Ok at the track!

Sorry there are no videos of the dyno run, but we weren't there for it all, I will try to get one from the track...

As promised here is a video of the cars very first run on the track….

We had the opportunity to turn some laps during the lunch break at a Classic race meeting so a good chance to finally give the car a shakedown.

It has a few minor niggles as expected, just things like some tyre rub & things, but overall a successful first run…

and the video here… (the incar mount was pinched from another racecar of ours at the last minute, so the visual incar stuff isnt the best).

Sorry its been a while between posts, but there hasn't really been anything exciting to report.... We have had two race days recently.

First was a Club day at our local Levels Raceway & we had the car seriously under sprung and over geared, resulting in me stalling in 2 of the 3 starts and in the last race I cooked the clutch trying to get started. Still posted a reasonable laptime of 1.07.332

Couple of pics here...

Second outing was at Ruapuna for the Premier Championship Series where we run in "Production GT" class on DOT rated tyres. A boost problem meant only 6th in qualifying, then a harsh call meant starting race 1 from the pit lane, but still managed to come through the field to win. race 2 was reverse grid and another win & class lap record of 1.31.519, but the boost problem came back for race 3 so just cruised round to finish. Happy with the results considered we haven't even started making changes to the suspension set-up yet, plus we were slightly undergeared for Ruapuna, meaning I had to get out of the throttle before the end of the main straight, plus I was struggling to reach full throttle (as the video shows) so a few wee issues to get sorted. Videos of the test sessions are below, the camera didn't work during the races :(

First test session here (part 1)

part 2 of first session

For those in NZ, the races from Ruapuna will be on the Gillette Motorsport TV show on January 8th 2012.

and also a video from inside my brothers car (Corolla DX KE70 Sedan with a 7AGTE 20 valve engine). The MR-S shows up at 32 seconds into the video.
