have you blocked off the hole in the head left by the egr pipe ?

if not make up a plate to block it off

Yes I did that, I bloked it off, do I need different gasket or not?... could the leak at the manifold cause my problems?

the leak at the manifold could be causing it, there are only two differant stud patterns for the 3S-GTE head so there's only two differant gaskets

well 3 if you include the ST-165. a pic of the manifold on the engine would help. also point out where the exhaust is blowing.

the manifold studs have a habit of pulling and the manifolds them selves warp so it could be either of these but a leaking exhaust will affect running as it screws up the lambda reading seen at the ECU
