How do these compare to the manual, ie fuel consumption etc?...

Also are there any problems with the autobox in the Rav?..

I'm getting 28mpg on mixed driving.

Autobox is fine. It's only 4 speed but it copes well with most things.

The VVti petrol is a great engine - it's chain cam and good for 200k if serviced regularly.
