I need a converter from 12 v (bare wire to usb socket 500ma), no not a plug in cig adapter but essentially the gubbins of that device .

Is there such a thing?? if not, I guess I'll need to pull apart a cig/usb adapter and wing it from there

why?

well, Ive found the tomtom home dock fits perfectly in the top cubby and if I can power it from the wiring for the 12 v socket, it would be really neat with no wires showing and provide the lift-out connectivity / security I want

by the way, the tomtom will output music and nav over bluetooth to the head unit so all in all , it will provide a totally integrated system .

any pointers as to where I could get an adapter as above...???

ps, permanent grin since I picked up my baby yesterday!!

They sell em' in Woolworths for a few quid.

Don't buy a cheap unbranded one however as I did this a few days ago (NOT FROM WOOLWORTHS) and when used started to smell electrical burning and touched the adaptor and it was really hot. I went and bought a replacement in Woolies and it was fine.

do you mean cig lighter ones as this isn't what I need, I want to do a discreet power install behind the dash, or do you mean buy a cig lighter one and rip it apart, (I already have a good Hewlett Packard cig lighter one)

thanks

Yeah rip it apart. Or alternativley you could do as I have done and put a 3-way ciggie adapter behind the centre console as there is a large area above the radio, so not only do you keep your adaptor intact you also have expansion capabilities and everything is fused correctly.
