Celica 190 V Belt Question

Hey guys i'm looking into getting a celica 190 it's a 2002 model with 43500 miles on the clock

just had a look at the service history of the car, and on a 2 occasions the v belt has been changed twice, and I was told this was a common problem on the celica.

It was changed under warranty at 20749 miles and again at 28355 miles.

Just a bit worried about it going again as I was told it's expensive to change.

Any symptoms to look for or any noises when the v belt goes. Can these be replaced with aftermarket ones which are stronger.

Just need some info.

Thanks

Yeah it is a common problem, it' a pain in the @rse to be honest. Mine is on it's 3rd in the space of about 40'000 miles (had 42k when I bought it now on 83k) and this one is going again!!

You are prob best getting itfrom the dealer, no more expensive than back street garage & you get a 1yr warranty on it (lukily this 1 is on it's way just b4 the year is up)

It costs £250 - £300 to replace because the belt goes & the tentioner also needs replacing (belt itself is about £40)

Hope this doesn't put you off, other than this It hasn't put a foot wrong but it is worth thinking about.

Oh yeah you can tell when it's on it's way, it will first start squeeking when on start up when cold.
