Hi all,

I own an avensis 1.8 ts3 2004. Have had if for 3 years with no problems but this week went to check oil and found oil level below dipstick. no light had come on the dash and i believe i checked it around April and put in .5 litre. The car was serviced in oct 07 and Ive only done 7000 miles since then. to get the oil level up to the max Ive had to put in 2.5 litres. there is no evidence of a leak on my drive and there is no smoke from the exhaust -

Any help/advice most appreciated

hello mate

the many posts typed here with the same issue.

the problem is well known with pistons cooling design fault.

the pistons drain holes are blocked with oil slag.

that is the reason

cheers/Igor

By the time the light comes on on the dash, it's too late. The light is an oil pressure light, not oil level. The light comes on when there is an extreme loss of oil pressure, e.g. no oil left for the pump to pick up or pump failure etc.

Check out this link.
