I heard recently that the Aygo/C2/107 are fitted with a Daihatsu engine. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, its a bu##er, I bought the car on the assumption that the engine and gearbox were Toyota designs.

I still like the car, it's a buzz

Dihatsu are Toyota

Well Toyota has a big share in Daihatsu. There is quite a lot of crossover between the two; the Toyota bB as sold in Japan is sold by Daihatsu over here as the Materia.

I think in Europe Toyota is the straight-laced, middle-of-the-road brand whereas Daihatsu has some of the more funky stuff B)

Toyota is the "mother-company" of Daihatsu and the engine is made with the technology of Toyota.

For example, the engine of the 107-Aygo-C1 had the VVT-i system of Toyota.

I allways thought Toyota had bought Daihatsu and thus obtained

the experience Daihatsu allready had with their 3-cylinder-engines

for the Cuore, on which they made improvements, amongst

which the fitment of a 12-valve head with VVT-i

Anyway, the engine currently in the Aygo/C1/107/Yaris/Cuore/Sirion2

is basically a Toyota end-product. If you buy a Diesel it's a Peugeot

HDi 4-pot engine, which Toyota then seems to name D4D, but actually isn't...

Toyota own 85% of Diahatsu, the engines in some of there new cars (Diahatsu) are based on Yaris engine blocks, not the other way round
