Vectra 150 V T180

Well, strange one this, but it has just confirmed I wasn't making up my discontent with my T180 and contrary to some peoples opinion, It's not my driving!

I have been using a 6 months old Vectra 150 CDTI for the last couple of weeks, not a car I have even looked at or even considered as a purchase in the last 5 years.... till now!

First of all, I have found it more comfortable for me, being well over 6ft, the build quality is very good, no squeaks, rattles or bangs. The spec (Design) is very similar to my T180. It also has an even bigger boot than my Tourer, and it handles better than my T180.

The engine is a joint venture between GM and Fiat, although it was Fiats design and development really, helped by GM's money. It is superb! It also has a DPF fitted, so was expecting 10%+economy below manufacturers claimed combined figure of 49 ish, WRONG, it averaged 54 on the first tankful and 53 on the second. A few mpg over claimed and 12+ better than my T180 (without tuning box) similar to every other car I have owned (many dozens) until I got the T180.

The performance when worked feels at least as quick as the T180 to me and I really like its punchy power delivery.

I know this wont be popular, but this car does what it says on the tin, performance and ECONOMY, without driving like a fa**** what the hell is wrong with the T180?

This has knocked me back with Toyota again.

It's all about personal choice my friend ............ you prefer the Vectra 150 and yet the majority of the motoring press prefer the T180 when the two have been compared. Wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same thing ...... now who likes Tom Ketchup and who prefers Daddies Brown Sauce?

I dont, or rather didn't, I have a T180 and also I have never ever seen a T180 v 150 Vectra comparison, can you give me a link to one, would be interesting. In any case, I trust my own opinion before any pen pushing press man.

I drive vectras and vauxhalls in my work - and i dont like them.... unreliable, thirsty on fuel and bits going wrong all the time. Which is why i have always had toyota cars, they never seem to let me down and i think they are a cut above vauxhall for quality etc etc. I do agree with you though that Toyota need to improve their performance of the engines and handling. But having said that, i wasnt after all that when i bought the toyota.

The vauxhall will lose more in value, sooner than the Toyota too.

Go with what you feel right in though, if you need a bigger boot and you are happier in the vauxhall etc maybe the vauxhall is for you.

All the best

Adam

Just a comment on the difference between the power of the 150 vectra and t180 avensis. I was on my way to the coast last week and had a 150 vectra driven by a mate of mine in front. I found from a standing start such has pulling away from islands and out of junctions he could always pull away from me. It was not till i was in 4th and 5th gears that i could catch up the gap he pulled out and get past. Then when i came to pull away from a standing start i was holding him up. On the plus side for avensis when it came to the twisty roads with shortish strights the mid range punch of the avensis left the vectra trailing. In my opinion to sum up i'd say the vectra was quicker off the mark, that i think is down to less turbo lag of the t180, but the avensis once moving has more power in reserve. The t180 can be made to exit junctions and islands quick but when you do that the wheels spin the revs hit and hold arorund 4000rpm in an instant and the traction contol is working overtime, and if you short shift to 2nd gear to kill the spining of the wheels it seems to suffer from a bit of turbo lag.

MPG

On that costal run i did 325 miles there and back, that includes pottering about around town. I filled up yesterday and it took 31.28 litres to fill it up. 31.28/4.54=6.88 round up the 6.88 to 6.9 325/6.9=47.10 Which i thought was good since i had 3 Adults plus a full boot. My mate had 2 People Plus a boot full, What he got the gallon when we got back i dont know. When we arrived he was showing 50.9mpg and i was showing 48.7.

What i did find strange is when i got back home to fill up the fuel gauge was between half and 3/4's well more closer to 3/4's but it took over 31 litres to fill up. The avensis has a 60 litre tank so you'd think it would be reading half way just about. What have toyota done put a bigger tank on the t180's

On the whole i'm happy with the car after problems with poor starting have now been sorted by a simple ecu update. Everybody has diffrent needs from a car and different tastes in what they like. For me the avensis ticks the right boxes for others it wont.

I've just done the first full tank in my Passat (2.0 TDI CR DPF 140PS) got 45.5 MPG real figures not the computer. Cant be sure if it feels fast though, it pulls all the way to 4.5k, unlike older ones which dumped all the torque and then slowed down after 3k. I haven't been against anything else yet to gauge its performance.

However i did have a 150 Vectra recently and it felt no different to this except it was less eager pulling to the redline (I know there is no need), i had the same engine in a Cadillac BLS in 06 (Auto), broke down 7x in 3 weeks, they were all mapped with the wrong ECU program!!!
