Carina E Engine Into An St 202 Celica

Hi,

I `ve just been to look at a Celica ST202 it`s a 1.8st but the engine is shot, once he agreed and we settled on a price it dawned on me that the engine from a Carina e might not fit, well it probably will but it might be different.... cams, ecu maybe some parts of the loom etc

So has anyone any idea if the leanburn 1.8 from a Carina e will fit into a Celica 1.8 st and actually work?

I have since been informed though that the lean burn engine has the fuel injectors positioned further into the cyl. head is this correct? does it matter? will it work basically

Thanks for all answers and opinions.

WHAT YEAR CARINA IS IT?

from the info i have the carina was fitted with a 3sfe same as celica. 3sge same as celica - though the 1.8 is a 4sfe , but these engines were fitted to the uk's 1800 cc celica st . so its all looking possible. you might need the ecu from the carina mind ya if the models are years apart as data on the celicas ecu may be too old to run this engine., but im no expert. GOOD LUCK .

thanks for the reply!

the Celica is a 1995 the Carina a 1996

so the cars are of similar year, the Carina was built in Burnsaton but i`m not sure where the engine was built.

I may try to get a celica engine anyway, the 1.8 is the least desirable one so should be rasonably cheap.....

CANT SEE IT BEING A PROBLEM . THE ENGINES WERE BUILT IN AN EXACT WAY FOR JAP MARKET AND UK MARKET ,

the engine is more likely to be a 7A-FE as they stopped using the 4S in the mid eighties. it's indenifiable as the s series engines are all 'canted' in the engine bay and the A series stand up straight. the 7A-FE from a carina will go in and wire up to a celica 7A-FE no problem.
