Warranty

Got a 2.2D T4 with 40K that will be o/warranty 1 Nov.

Got a letter today offering 10% off for a year ie 54/month.

A bit hacked off as the 2.2 is listed as 'above 2.2' but any basic data classify it as a 2.2 in general brochures.

But clever Toyota, brochures state warranty for 1.4-2.2L is x and then 'over 2.2 is y' I thought me being in the lower bracket but NO chance, the actual engine is 2.213 something so sure enough its the higher band and hence more.

One option would be be a 2 year warranty at 44/month and it will include the Toyota Club/ breakdown etc (as for the 1 year option)

Bottom line - IS it worth it??

If you plan keeping the car then I think its worth taking out the 2yr warranty.

I did with my 2.0 vvti. the way I look at it, if you have it you don't need it. But if you don't have it you will regret.

I think with charged rates you only need one major problem and the warranty will be paid for itself.

however you take your gamble!

I have a 2004 2.0 D4D. I took out the warranty and all I can say is that I am very glad that I did.

To date I have had there rear screen replaced under warranty - Cost £1000.

When I had the timing belt replaced @ 60k I was going to change the water pump. The garage advised that the water pump is covered by the warranty. At 68k the water pump started to leak and was replaced under warranty.

I am currently experiencing starting problems when the car at "normal" temperture. Members on the forum have suggested the starter motor is causing the problem. The cost of a starter motor is £300 which is covered by the warranty.

I am definitely glad that I took out the warranty.

thanks, and this is for whats supposed to be one of the most reliable cars ...

I called the warranty phone number today re the 10% off for a year and asked re 2 years -same deal ? - nope.

what about 10% for the first year and pay rest for year two - nope.

also complained re paper work stating 2.2D and that pricing should hence be for the 1.4 to 2.2L and not 2.2L and above

as stated. was ofourse told that engine is 2.231. they get the cake and eats it ehhh??

Warranty direct wants 37/month, not much of a saving.

Should you deice to go for extended warranty do it with the manufacturer. I was naive enough to believe that you could decent service from some cowboys and I am thousand times sorry for going this way.

Cheers.

Agree. Never, I say never, pay for the warranty upfront with cowboys or you will regret it. It typically covers catastrophic part failures (even with wear and tear cover) and if you service and replace all parts when advised by the garage before part fails. Highly unlikely I will ever meet that criteria or live to claim it.

Do it with the manufacturer I suggest. I hear warranty direct is also ok, DD which you can cancel if unhappy.

The Toyota extended warranties are excellent and cover most items against failure. The online extended warranty companies make them look good but the part has to be A: specifically covered, and B: The part must have failed (broken, fallen off, burnt out etc) for arguments sake, a starter motor with worn out bushes would be unlikely covered. You do get what you pay for. JohnYossarian is going through the pain of a non genuine extended warranty at the moment!

If the car was a petrol then i wouldnt purchase an extended warranty, however as this one isn't, i would! I imagine a set of injectors won't be cheap on that car, provided they are covered, Kingo?

Add in the turbo and all the other bits, better to be safe than sorry. :)

The policy expries on 6th October. My advice is never to approach click4warranty.co.uk.

They kept my car in a garage for a week simpy to tell me that they found how they will not pay for the repair. I am taking the case to trading standards but meanwhile I used my car insurance policy to get the car recovered to a Toyota garage. The funny (not funny at ll in fact) thing for example is that they say they would not pay for labour at Toyota as it is too expensive, at the same time take my car to an "authorised" garage where the rate is £ 67/hour (vs £ 74 at Toyota).

They will try to do their best NOT to pay you but on top of that they will delay ecerything by days/weeks.

I will NEVER again approach thse guys, but also warranty that is not backed up by the manufacturer.

Good point about the car being diesel, lots of expensive bits in there.

This post attracted my attention because I too am thinking about the extended warrenty for my Verso when the time comes.

What has shocked me the most is the prices you are quoting.

The Dutch prices for the extended warranty are as follows (it's in Dutch but I am sure you can figure it out)

Tarieven (geldig t/m 31 december 2008)

12 maanden Extra garantie (max. 130.000 km)

Model Prijs (incl. BTW)

Aygo € 189,-

Yaris (Verso) € 215,-

Auris, Corolla (Verso), Prius € 243,-

Avensis (Verso) € 275,-

Camry, Celica, MR2 € 306,-

RAV4, Previa € 349,-

LandCruiser € 405,-

24 maanden Extra garantie (max. 160.000 km)

Model Prijs (incl. BTW)

Aygo € 355,-

Yaris (Verso) € 415,-

Auris, Corolla (Verso), Prius € 449,-

Avensis (Verso) € 505,-

Camry, Celica, MR2 € 567,-

RAV4, Previa € 655,-

LandCruiser € 765,-

See >>> http://data.toyota.nl/home/data/ToyotaV8/p...traGarantie.pdf

The only condition is this has to be taken out before the normal warranty expires. i.e. 3 yrs or 100,000KM.

Are the UK prices very high or am I missing something?

Andy.
