Paintwork Nightmare !

Recommended Posts

Posted

Help - I took delivery of a brand new verso 2.2d 134bhp three weeks ago and the paintwork has patches of hairline scratching. If you rub it with a super soft cloth it leaves patches of scratching - like a light brillo pad. Dealership have taken for inspection, yet the courtsey car - exact same model suffers the same fate. I could not confidently clean the car without fear of ruining it.

Anyone else notice paint as thin as air ? I know that there is talk of class action in the us against toyota for same thing...

Also - When I fill up the tank or reset the range on the computer (even standing still) it never seems to state anything higher than 400 miles or so predicted ? My pd cupra leaon 150tdi used to state 540 every time. I too can't seem to get more than 45 litres in...

Still love the car though...best mpv available

Was pretty much the same on mine for the first few thousand miles. Now I have put close to 6,000 miles on the clock I am getting predictions that start in the high 400's (about 480) then with 250 miles on the trip I have about 250 - 270 predicted miles left. Most from 1 tank to date has been 535 miles (with predicted 9 miles left) but could only put 49.5 litres in at the fill up, suggesting a further 5 litres were sitting in the tank.

Thanks - that's really useful. I guess I will have to wait and see !

I can't generalise it for all Toyotas, but when I had a Lexus IS200 (blue) this was also an issue, and it has ben debated a lot in the owners clubs. On a new car paint may still need to harden out a bit, but I fear it will never be very strong. Chips and washing swirls show especially on the dark colours. A special sealant (or clear foil on the exposed areas) may be a good Idea, especially on an new car.
