High Rpm When Idle

My engine warning light is on - the mechanic said he can't see why and wants to switch it iff and wait for it to come back on.

The car is 2001 with 21k miles. When I start the car in the morning it bahaves normally, but when it has warmed up and I am waiting at a stop light or in traffic the idle goes up to 2500 / 3000 rpm (instead on 1000 normal rpm). If I switch off the engine it goes back to 1000 but will go back to 2500 after a few minutes.

When I slow down to lower gear coming to roundabouts the car has recently started to shudder.

Any ideas??

possibly a problem with a sensor somewhere or the ecu.

did the mechanic plug the computer into the car???

Tkae it to the toyota dealer (if its not there) they should just plug it in and it tells them whats up

if you have a cheap mat, make sure its not jamming the accelerator pedal
