Why An Aygo Instead Of A C1 Or 107?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about selling our old Punto and getting one of "these" as the wife quite likes the style (think she likes the C1 front best in fact  )

I guess I can expect to get 'buy Toyota for the quality' response, but apart from the quality aspect, which I get, how do the three different versions vary?

Wondering about which company - Toyota or PSA - mostly developed the car and especially the powertrain.

As far as the Aygo goes, most likely contender is 3 Door Manual Platinum model - any comments to that choice?

All three cars share the same underpinnings, which includes (thankfully!) a Toyota engine.

The only differences are cosmetic, such as exterior body shape, styling, specification & badges. Even the interiors are practically identical....

They sell more Aygos than C1's or 107's though.... I wonder why ;) You're obviously paying for the Badge but IMO the Aygo looks miles better than it's siblings. You'll find cheaper additions from Peugeot or Citroen but each car is interchangeable (so for example, you can buy a rev counter cheaper from Peugeot and it'll fit the Aygo and the C1)

Cracking little cars and selling like hot cakes right now thanks to the economy & low tax bracket.

Hi mate

The differences between them are price and cosmetics.

The VVTi engine common to them all is pretty much Toyota's doing (which is a good thing imo)

Price wise (both purchasing and servicing) the PSA two will be cheaper (although I suspect the Toyota may hold onto it's value a little better due to "perceived" quality)

I went for the 5dr Platinum as I really like the interior and alloys. If money had been an issue, I would've gone for the middle of the range Citroen.

The bottom of the range on all three manafacturers have 2 speaker stereos and manual windows (I think) - and personally I wouldn't want something that basic, but for cheap transport, you can't beat ANY of them I suppose.

I'd go for the one you like the look of. Simple as that.

Thanks guys  - didn't know the engine was a VVT-i - that is sure good news

Price wise on the Aygo version, I don't see enough price difference in the base Aygo and the Plarinum to even consider the base, especially as this will be a long term driver (current Punto had 6 years and the one that replaced we had for 5 years, so buy cars to keep :) )

Are they actually all made on the same production line by the same workers?

Just looked at cars again .... 107 got that weird front  - off the list straight away ;)

another factor I'd consider is the dealer....what about courtesy cars for servicing, deal if you have a trade in?, service pricing etc

bottom line is buy what you like the most, I went for a 3dr platinum coz I liked the seats the best and try to avoid anything "french" at the best of times

OK ....

Just did a on-line price comparision of the Aygo 3-Dr Platinum with A/C and protection pack Versus C1 3-Dr Code with A/C and 'protection pack' features .....

Toyota = £8,935

Citroen = £9,169 INCLUDING £800 cashback - so Toyota wins on price

Not sure what deals are available in person at the dealerships yet.

Re Dealer Service - I am very happy with my Toyota dealer, and as I bought from there and get servicing from there, I would expect them to look after me with an Aygo!

Sounds like a no-brainer decision between the two, huh :D

John - sounds like you have exactly the spec that I am interested in. Any comments about it? anything you wished was different, etc?

Check on line brokers too for prices - 3 door platinum with a/c £7621 OTR with Drive the Deal.

We chose Toyota as we preferred the looks and Toyota dealerships generally have a good reputation. From reading a few forums Pug and Cit charge more for servicing.

Watch out for the prices on these sites, the DriveTheDeal one requires you to take out finance to pay for the car.

Hoovie, my spec is just great, nowt I'd get that I didn't......expect around 8.1k £......thats what pushing it did!

there isn't much in the cars for the dealers but there is no reason why you shouldn't get a bit of their reg bonus etc....

You will NOT be dissapointed with a platinum :-)

Cheers, John

Got a Target there Kingo ;) :D - I'll drop you a PM

I was thinking the same. I wanted Aygo for cheap tax/insurance and good fuel economy. Aygo Platinum for not much more money looks 100% better than Aygo/Aygo+, especially the interior where I'm going to spend most of the time anyway. I added Air-conditioning, front foglights, mudflaps, bootliner and ended up with Aygo £2000 more expensive than base model. If I was chosing again, I would buy the same Aygo with exactly same optional bits.

And the car is going to stay in family for at least 7-8 years so I think money was well spent.

Cintoen C1 and Peugeot 107 looked pretty cheap in their top trims if you compare them to Aygo Platinum.. So my choice was simple.

Yes, the TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile) Factory in Kolin, Czech Repulic makes all of them.

See this link http://www.tpca.cz/en/

The car is actually designed and managed by toyota, with PSA providing support with local contracts, logistics and supplying the 1.4litre HDi engine, which was in the diesel Aygo (aygo diesel is discontinued)

The 3 companies joined in this venture to increase the savings/margin they could make in volume manufacture, hoping to sell 100,000 of each version per year. It's quite difficult to cut a profit from a car with a relatively low List Price.

I knew the Aygo would be sell more because it has more character than the other 2 cars that share the platform.

John, mine is the same as yours (plat 3dr with AC and protect pack) I paid £7,900 from Simms of Northampton.

Very true, PLUS PSA are very good at sourcing large amounts of cheaper parts in Europe. They have been doing it for years, and the extra volume Toyota bring to the party only adds to the competitivness of the product

Hoovie: Another month another target, you know how it is ;)

The basic red Aygo, lightest and fastest, consider no other!

All Aygos are slow. So if you were buying Aygo (even light basic one as you say) hoping that it will be a fast car then you made a big mistake. Other than speed everything is nice in Aygo

How fast do you want to go???

if nippy, squirty or zippy are suitable adjectives, the Aygo fits the bill

Certainly quick enough from A to B for me!

Ya just gotta know how to drive it ;)

Spend the extra & go for the 5 door!!!

I was going for the 3 door until I hired a 5 door out before I purchased. Much more convenient & also the seat needs to be re-set each time you move it on the 3 door - pain in the @rse if you ask me. Best decision I made.

Agree totally. You don't buy an Aygo if you want to do 120mph down the motorway!

I do 60 - 80mph easily in mine - that's all I want - gets me fron A to B.
