Hi

A quick update on this, it has gone all year without a fault, just sailed through it's MOT with no advisories and continues to drive very well, is averaging mid 40's mpg... these really are excellent little cars... :D

Hi all

Yaris had it's first let down.... lambda sensor went on strike... got a genuine new one from eBay for £29.99... result.... drives real nice now, it must have been going for some time before it put the MIL light on, came up with "running rich" code on the reader

Abigail never did get her pink street Ka... something to do with too much to insure so we have just done her a standard Ka... finished last week.... she didn't get a PINK one either!!! (thank god)

It's a great little car but I must say driving them back to back does bring out how good the Yaris is, it is so much more comfy and refined, mind you it cost a lot more when new but don't tell Ab I'd much rather have a Yaris all day long...

I do think the Ka looks cute though especially with the deleted boot handle and debadged....

Where do I begin? I’m utterly flabbergasted!

I presume you’re a mechanic by trade or at least have a lot of experience dabbling with cars as you seemed to know exactly what you’re talking about, undertook the project with a cool head and knew exactly what needed doing and how?

It looks absolutely stunning! I thought I had a steal when I bought my car for two grand but it seems you’ve now topped me! Very inspiring indeed and my car needs a bit of work here and there so I’m going to have a look on eBay now myself!

I also admire your outlook by getting your daughter involved as much as possible in the project. Too many people nowadays just drive their cars and have no clue whatsoever about it or its mechanics.

Oh God I’m so green with envy its just unbelievable! Its an absolute stunner and you turned the car into a right steal! Considering the condition, mileage and how it looks I’d happily pay £2000 for it mate. Its also really nice that you did it for your daughter. My parents wouldn’t give me the steam off their p*ss on a cold morning!

If you’re ever down this way let me know, we can meet up and compare Yaris ;)

Its also really nice that you bought it back from the scrap yard. They’re great cars and too many cars get written off too easily. Well done for doing your part to save resources and the environment!

Oh mate! Get lost! What are you?! Some genie with cars or something?! I looked at that Ka and thought "no chance..." Yet it looks brand new again! Whats your secret?! I'll come up an give you a helping hand with stuff just so I can learn! Ah ha.

Well... thought I'd post an update, 7 years after the last post, Jess turns 25 in a few days so she has now had this Yaris for 8 years, it has now done over 127,000 miles, had two exhaust pipes, several sets of brake pads, a MAF sensor, a new sump (old one rusted through!!!) and a second hand exhaust manifold...

So it's been one of the cheapest cars I've known, it still looks OK from 10ft away and the inside still looks like new.

Jess now lives in Kent so I don't see the car much as she usually comes up in her fiance's Mazda but she came up in it this weekend a 500mile round trip, I gave it a good wash and check over for her and it is still spot on, uses no oil or water and just keeps plugging on.....

Jess get's married at the end of April so has been saving up for that but when the wedding is over she fancies something a bit more sporty, a Mercedes SLK is top of the list at the moment...

So the Yaris may be going.... what a cracking car, if she gets £200 for it then it's cost £100 a year to own the car, plus normal running costs which you pay anyway...

A bit of a bargain I think....

Oh, I forgot about the new door...!!!

About a year ago someone knocked the door mirror and broke it, someone else hit it in a car park and dented it and the central locking packed up so cheapest way was to get a new door... £30 for the complete door including mirror, just swapped the trim panel over and everything fixed as it was the same colour...

Took it for a drive with the door off... very drafty...!!!???!!!

Incredible! Thanks for sharing! Envious of your ability to bring back something that looks like a wreck to something looking like new!

Top man, something you can be very proud of, good to update the story as well.

Ive been looking at a 2014 1.3 Yaris for £7k, ha ha what's the point, I would need to keep it 70 years to be same value as yours !!
