Rear Bike Rack

That is a nice rack, Chris, but a word of warning .....

Don't know the technical terms, but it relies on being able to clamp a holder onto the plate that ball is on. Most of the RAVs use a 'swan neck' style of ball and arm style when fitted with a Towbar

However, with a little bit of fabrication, that support plate could be mounted on a rear step on a RAV4 without a spare wheel and work well.

Hi quinnmar,

The information on the Bike Rack was contained in a weekly newsletter that I get from Chain Reaction Cycles who are based in Northern Ireland. In a moment of madness I deleted a lot of old e-mails between posting the link from the newsletter and receiving you reply to my post :(

The link in the original post points at the details of the Pendle rack on the Chain Reaction website. Further infomation is shown on the Pendle site at http://www.pendle-bike.co.uk/nulldet.asp?R...0Support%20Rack

They also do other types of rack which would fit a RAV.

As a company Chain Reaction are IMO ultra reliable and very good value for money. I've ordered spares from them at 16.30hrs and they have been delivered the following morning. If you're interested in mountain or road biking at any level it might be worth signing up for their newsletter.

Hello

After heaving my bike on top of my 4.3 I opted for the following setup:

Brink removable towbar (Exactly the same as Toyota OEM bar but without the very expensive £150 "Toyota" sticker) - £160 from Hedleys in Durham

OEM Toyota 7-pin wiring kit - eBay - £100 - WRT Bradford

Thule Ride-on towball mounted bike carrier - £75 for two bike carrier, £99 for three.

whole kit for less than fitting Toyota bar at the dealer

One word of warning if doing a diy install - the Toyota wiring manual lies!! - Fitted in a few hours then a day fault finding - turns out the instructions say to put the fuse in the wrong fuse holder.

cheers,

Tim
