It depends on the use you put the car to. If your main driving is at speed on twisty country roads and (like me) you like to maintain momentum and don't slow down for corners then 15k is probably reasonable. I was once told by a tyre dealer that the best profit boost for the tyre industry was the combination of power steering and front wheel drive.

yeah its country roads .. i do slow down .. i tend not to brake alot, ease off accelerator just ..

but the bridgestones on my last yaris did 30k and the the 2 back tyres were still in mint condition when i left them in to exchange it.

why did toyota at 10k note all tyes as green ... in the report .. the highest rating.

You're lucky to get 15k from your Yaris diesel ! I only got 11,000 miles from my front tyres! (Yokohama's). I had the tracking tested & that was spot on......I think Yokohama tyres are 'cr.p' I bought the Yaris diesel because I wanted economical driving....only to find I needed to replace the front tyres after the first year!!! My previous car was a Corolla & I got 24,000 miles from the front tyres ( Dunlops).

new tyres now come with less tread on the outers, a new tyre can have 8mm in the center. and 5 on the outers, you need to look out for ones that are equal depths

I have just replaced my back tyres after 38500 miles, they came on the car a D4D 2006. They were Dunlop's though which amight make a difference?

The front originals did around 18000 miles, the current ones which are again Dunlop will have done 20,000 by the time i replace them....

  • 3 weeks later...

I have just had my car serviced......10,000 miles....I dont think there is more than 2000 miles left on my tyres !!! I am a very quiet driver with the brakes... I dont speed or pull it around corners...in fact I think I am average... They are Dunlop. is there any other trye which may be more efficient ?

Answer - cos they just make it up. The same dealer had my car in for work a few months apart and in that time, according to the second VSR, my tyres had actually gained tread. Now that's magic!!

But 15K isn't too bad for fronts in my opinion.

Dont forget that the Diesels have lots of torque compared with Petrols thus creating a lot of twisting force, combine this with the weight of Diesel engines when braking and steering, tyre wear wont be that great compared with a petrol car of the same spec.

Hard tyres like Michelin Life will last longer but offer less grip, sticky tyres grip well but wear quickly, decisions decisions :)

Mrs Kingo has a 1.0 Yaris on Bridgestones, the wires were hanging out of both sides at 10k  nothing wrong with the setup either

Put some Firestones on it now and its done 20K on those with those, no problem

Kingo
