Hi all

This is my first post as a new member and as a new owner of a 2002 Corolla T sport.

I previously owned a Starlet GT for 6 years but have decided to grow up a little and go with the T Sport.

I am picking the car up on saturday and was hoping you could give me some advice on things to watch out for or any common problems i may get with the car.

Thanks lee

check that the clutch master cylinder had been changed - listen for a squeek when pressing the clutch. check clutch operation - if it makes a noise on over-run or has a high biting point it has the original dodgy clutch which also got upgraded. the shift cables where also upgraded - if they havent it may crunch when going into reverse. gearboxex are a bit notchy put changing for a decent oil help that. the lift bolts on the 02 model were a bit weak and prone to wearing down - change them for peace of mind, they only cost a pound or so and easy to change. that's the common faults and if you buy from a toyota dealer they'll put any of these right if they havent already been done.

apart from that its not a bad car - enjoy!

Welcome to the club

As ae102 states look out for these issues and all should be well, these Rolla's are pretty tough really. However as with all cars they have their quirks :)

Test "lift" by passing 6,200 RPM with a warm engine, provided you feel and hear a big difference all is well.

hi guys

thanks for the feedback.

I have purchased the car from a main toyota dealer so i hope the problems have been rectified. Were the problems ever toyota recalls?

When i took the car for a test drive it drove very well lifting when it should. The car has been supplied with a one year warrenty so if anything goes wrong it will hopefully get sorted. its only done 45k and has a full service history.

When you say the lift bolts are these the bolts that support the hydraulic lift mechanism. Is it much of a job to replace them??

thanks again lee

If you have a 1 year warranty then there's no need to worry!

A TSB was issued about the Lift bolts so these would be covered under your warranty if they were to break!

Welcome to the club!

real easy job - its just a case of removing cam cover, swapping bolts and replacing cam cover. very rare they break but you wouldnt want them too! the early ones just wear down a lil bit. i can send you instructions and torque setting if you need them.

best bet getting from main dealer - all the probs i listed are common but some owners dont go and get them sorted!? them some poor beggar buys it out of warranty and has to foot the bill - been a fair few on here lately.

AE102 if you could send me these detials that would be great thanks.

When the warrenty is coming to a close then i will chage them but if i do it now i wll only void the warrenty!

I picked the car up on saturday and as many of you guys are; im addicted to lift.

Rather off topic but very true regards owners not returning vehicles after a recall. I have a friend who has an old Golf GTI which dumped the contents of its heating matrix all over his feet. He got away with badly scalded feet but later discovered that all Golf's of that generation should have been recalled to prevent just that problem.

How lazy can you be to? Not even bother taking the car back for such a serious fault is rather stupid!
