If i remember correctly i had the same problem i think it was the nut or the key which was slightly damaged, I had an rac man remove it for me good knows how he did it. Or your best bet would be to go somewhere and have the nuts broken off and just get a new set altogether, 70 Seems expensive for them as they will get worse after a while.

what you do is hammer a socket over the end of it that is slightly smaller than the locknut. then use a wrench to get it off.

£70 is a joke. They are rebranded Mcguard wheel nuts that can be had for £25!

I assume it's a Tri-Lock locking wheel nut, the ones with 3 holes on the nut and 3 pins on the key?

The little ring you are talking about is there to prevent a socket going on to remove it, use a small chisel and hammer it off, it will come off in minutes, then use a splined socket (not a Hex type) which is slightly smaller than the nut, hammer it onto the nut and use a power bar or a wrench or whatever you have that fits the socket, if it isn't too tight then it will come off. If you are unlucky enough that this method won't remove it then you will need to get it drilled out with what I call an Easy Out... which will drill into the nut with a left handed thread, as it gets tighter into the nut the nut will come loose.

If you are replacing the lock nuts STAY AWAY FROM TRI-LOCK... uuter c**p IMO.

This happened to me last week, Toyota wanted £130 inc new locking nut!

I refused to pay it, tried around a few tyre places and the guy got it off in a few minutes for a fiver!

I highly recommend Carryduff tyres just beside Belfast for anyone in Northern Ireland that has this problem!
